Question about 2003 Ford F150 Regular Cab

1 Answer

Hi all - my son has a 2004 Ford F150, small block w/ an intermittent charging problem for about 6 mos now. new battery 4 months ago, checked again yesterday by the dealer who said their battery was fine. the specific problem is that every now and then, about every 4th or 5th week, the truck will simply have no charge in the morning. jump it and it fires right up and seems to be fine for another x number of weeks w/ no correlated specific time to fail. Question: what order should i begin the search for the intermittent problem source? thanks agian.

Start up the car and pull the battery cable.
if car stop, then check the alternator, regulator.
of the car keep running, then turn off the engine. check for short, this is going to be along process, you would need a electric diagram, that you can check with local literary,

Brand new battery died in 2004 honda pilot

The charging circuit/voltage maybe faulty.
I recommend you get an auto electrician to check out your alternator and charging regulator.

F150 2002 starter 8 months ago new battery 1 week battery chager shows charged but only get one click when i try to start.

Check your ground. If you don't have a good ground even a the battery terminal that's the symtem it will give. I hope it's that easy. That's where I would start. I hope this helps and good luck.

Truck sat for 6 weeks battery went dead. Charged

If checking battery cables and wiring to the starter and ground points doesn't help. Have the battery checked for a bad cell. Preferably before you charge it.

No 4 wheel drive in ford f150. electronic shift .I know its vacuem assist but where do I start.

Sorry missed this one a month ago.
Starting with the vac reservoir behind the battery box, working towards the IWE, check for cracks in the vac lines and that the check valves are working.

You can place a vac gauge on the IWE vac input, and check to see if it holds vac as a first step. This is the rough outline of the IWE vac components

intermittant start sounds like starter relay, 13.6-14.4 is still charging anything above 12.0 is charging, so that does not sound bad to me. I have a 99 F150 and have found all my problems were sticky relays
