Driver's side window gets stuck going down!

  • sdlewis1938 Dec 20, 2008

The remote key lock does not open or lock the doors and putting the transmission in drive does not lock the doors. The drivers side window does not go up or down but the other three work.

I have a 2005 colorado reg cab. The power door locks wont work with the remote or the door switches, however when I hit the lock or unlock button on the remote I hear the relay click and the lights flash but no locks. Also the drivers side window will not roll up or down but the passenger side works perfect from both switches.Doesnt seem to be bad switches any suggestions?

Exact same problem with the power door locks and driver side window. Is relay bad? Where is relay located and how do you replace it?

  • 911brad Feb 04, 2009

I have the exact same problem as everyone else described. My driver side window will not work and my power locks don't work.

I have a 2004 colorado. Coloradorob described my problem exactly.

  • smithjohnb Apr 11, 2009

Same problem with a 2005 Colorado with 67K miles - neither driver's window nor power door locks worked. Someone suggested that resetting the trucks system by removing both battery cables, touching them together which likely discharged any stored codes, and then connecting the positive first, then the negative. This seemed like the most likely approach and indeed it was for me. This is what I would recommend first since I don't think that switches in the door are likely to just go bad.

I had the same problem to the T. I look online for all the same solutions and I can only tell you what worked for me. Actually what I think worked, HAHA! I went out to my truck and unplugged both battery terminals from battery and placed them together to supposedly reset the electrical system, "so I was told." After this for about 20 min or so, I went back out and in this order; re-installed positive terminal followed by negative terminal to battery. After this I checked locks and windows and surprise they worked. I've seen a lot of people say that all they did was wait and they worked later, so maybe it was that and not what I did, but who cares, they work now. Give it a shot and if it works for you, GREAT let me know, I HATE CHEVY CAUSE OF THIS......they wanted me to pay for a stupid diagnostic before they would help me........well screw you I fixed myself. My truck (2004 Chev. Colorado) was doing this and I disconnected the power to the power lock and window assembly in the drivers door for about 45 minutes. When I reassembled it worked like new. I hope it works out for the rest of you. Oh, also,my extra key would open the driver's door.

I have the same problem.
Take the window control out of the door, two screws in the finger pit and pull it up, I broke a little plastic piece off the front of mine pulling it out so be carefull, it will still work if you break yours, its in luie of another screw.

I have a Crew Cab so I have 4 buttons, but underneath are 3 connection blocks, disconnect the large white one and with a small file, even a fingernail file will work, and make sure each wire pin is clean both male and femail, I use a can of electric part cleaner spray it off and reassemble, I have had to do this several times, and keep the tools in my truck now so I can do it anywhere I am.

I think Chevrolet has a problem and should recall that switch but until them be prepared

I have the opposite problem
ONLY my drivers door power lock works,
None of the others.
Also, my key didn't fit the drivers door, so w/o the key fob I'm *******.

IMPORTANT: Before entering programming mode, have in possession all of the transmitters you will be using on the vehicle. Once you program the transmitter, all previous codes will be erased from the memory. The other transmitters will not be functional until you program the transmitters again.
  1. Close and lock all doors with the driver's side power lock/unlock switch.
  2. Insert key into ignition and remove it from the ignition key cylinder at least six times within 10 seconds. Your Hazard Lamps will flash if you have performed this step successfully. NOTE: Withdraw key completely from ignition cylinder each time. If this procedure is performed too fast, system will not enter programming mode.
  3. Insert key into the ignition cylinder and turn to the ACC position.
  4. Within 5 seconds, push ANY button on the remote transmitter. Your Hazard Lamps should flash. NOTE: Do not press the button more than one time in the above step. If the button is pressed more than one time, the programming procedure will not be successful.
  5. If there are any remaining transmitters (including the old ones), unlock then lock all doors using the driver's side power lock/unlock switch and within 5 seconds, push ANY button on the next remote. Your Hazard Lamps should flash. Repeat this step for each transmitter (including any existing transmitters).
  6. Turn the key to the OFF position, remove keys from the ignition,
unlock doors using the driver's side power lock/unlock switch and open the driver side door.

Driver side door lock jammed on 2004 jeep grand cherokee

the key dont work or just the fob?????????????
did you try both fobs?
car came with 2 fobs try both. ?
if both fobs fail, bad solenoid, if metal key works.

if metal dont work, the lock is frozen with ICE, got ICE?(hair dryer fixes it)
no ice ?,then lube the lock with graphite, lube. if key fails.
if key dont fail and you get 12v to solenoid, then the solenoid is bad
I just replaced one that had 1/2 power (the guts inside sol were bad)
$100 part. too.

reprogram the remote transmitter. first leave driver door open all other doors closed, key removed from the ignition switch. insert key into the ignition switch, then remove it.press lock and unlock on the vechicle door lock control switch at 1 second intervals 5 times. close and repoen drivers door.press lock and unlock on the vechicle lock control switch at 1 second intervals 5 times. insert key into ignition switch. switch ignition on and off twice to program a remote transmitter code whilst erasing the original codes or three timre to check how many remote transmitters are currently registered.remove key from the ignition switch.system should now lock and unlock.twice to indicate programming mode or one to four times, slowly to indicate number of remote transmitters registered.for the solara press and hold lock and unlock remote buttons together, press lock remote button for a second period of 1 second. system should now lock and unlock vechicle.once to confirm, twice to indicate registration has failed.if required repeat button procedure to program remaining remote transmitters.note to exit programming mode close drivers door or insert ignition key.maximum of 4 remote transmitters can be programmed.if akk failed let dealership reprogram remote transmitters.

Door locks and power window

Just did this procedure I got from coloradofans.com forums:

"any type of power/voltage change seems to trigger this issue

The most common symptom is power locks fail and only the driver window quits, however that is on the extended cab.

Steps to fix and it works every time.

take door panel off driver's door
Disconnect the wiring attached to window and power lock control unit
disconnect battery cables
connect the negative to the positive cable(((NO BATTERY CONNECTED)))
This will act to short residual voltage in the system

5 minutes later
place the key in the ignition and turn to the run position
connect the wiring to the window/lock controller
connect the negative cable to the battery
then the positive
open drivers side door
turn key to the off position((do not remove yet)) you should get a series of dings through speakers telling you the key is still in the ignition
once it begins dinging pull the key out and you should hear the door lock solenoids trigger and the windows should work." - Coloradofans.com forums
