BMW 328i convertable climate control intermittant problem

My climate control has stopped working. All displays appear and respond as normal however there is just no air flow. The fault is intermittant as everything came back on one day and was fully functional including the a/c. It all worked fine for about 2 weeks and now it has stopped again.

Thank you very much for your help, however I found out the problem. I also posted an email to the E36 climate repair shop on Ebay, who if anyone needs it will fix your E36 for a flat rate of £10 plus postage. When I told them the problem they said it wasn't the climate control unit at fault but actually the final stage resistor located in the passenger foot well. I needed to get a new one of these and the problem was sorted. I would highly recommend them if anyone needs help.

Hi. I have a 318i with the same problem! Just wondering...were you able to fix or resolve the issue? If so, what did you have to do!

Hi,

If your climate control is switching itself off or resetting then it is probably the control module itself which is faulty. Luckily there is a common fault which is easy to repair yourself using the information below. If you don't feel comfortable repairing it yourself and you are in the UK then I recommend you visit http://www.bmw-climate-repair.co.uk who offer a repair service for £35

If you find than the fan is not coming on or is coming on at a low speed then check to make sure the microfilter is not blocked. If it is not blocked or the fan problem is intermittent then it is probably the climate output stage which has failed. This is located behind the glovebox by the center console.

A good article about fixing the climate control module can be found at http://www.macadamizer.com/bmwfix.html

Thanks

ok there is a loose wire and when your rpms get to arround 5-6 im sure your motor starts to wiggle and jiggle a bit and they touch thats where your cut appears but at idle id think they are apart eanough to keep the electricity from jumping get it checked out at a mechanic or try and locate the wire yourself

1998 328i Clock/Date Stopped Working

HI,

Please take a good look at the display, it may work.
Often there's only yhe backlight of the display which doesn't work.
You only have to replace some small lamps behind the display module.

Kind regards,
Gerard

No heat or a/c

From what your saying, it works in a sense, but very little air is blowing out. I had this issue with my '96 328i where the climate control was only running the fans at a low speed no matter what setting I put it on. The resolution to my problem was replacing the final stage unit for the climate control and now my heat and a/c work beautifully and the fan goes from low to high without problems. If you don't have climate control but the manual dials for the heat and a/c, then you may need to change the blower resistor pack. For either unit, it can be located in several places and you'll have to do some searching to find it good. If the convertible is any similar to the 4dr sedan I have, it should be located under the dash panel on the drivers side at the rear of the console. Hopefully this link may help you out.
