Question about 1988 Mitsubishi Montero

Acceleration problems 1988 montero will not go over 35mph whenyoustepdown on it, let uponthe accerator a little bit and it starts going a little faster

Check fuel pressure. Check fuel filter. Check timing. Check plugs and wires. Any or all of these can lead to poor acceleration.

maybe one of your tire is bad. check each tire for any sign of lump or imperfection.
sometimes that hoping problem is cause by mafunctioning of you 4wheel drive system.

the fuel pressure regulator is not getting enough vacuum,its located under the plenum attached to the fuel rails,its a little round thing with a vacuum line on it.

On acceration truck cuts out and loses power


check fuel pressure should be about 4-7 psi remove fuel line at fuel pump the one going back to the tank remove fuel cap and blow compressed are through the fuel line back to the tank to elimnate any blockages see how u go

There are two temp sensors on the engine to the left of the distrubutor. both on the goose neck. I have found that often a false hot occurs when one of these goes bad.

Bogs and backfires


What have you done so far? Does your van have electronic ignition or points? If the latter i'd check/replace points, capacitor & white, low tension wire inside distributor. Also check the spark plugs (all four should have the same grey/brown colour) & H.T. lead resistance, especially if the fault occurs under load/acceleration.
