Question about 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara

Open Question

1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara wouldn't start

The SUV was running fine yesterday, overnight parked in a garage, today couldn't start it. The engine is turning ok but fails to start, occasionally when holding the key longer and foot on gas it starts for a split second but goes off as I let go of the key in ignition. Fuel delivery problem? other sensors failed? The battery I think is ok as it was changed in january 2008.

The SUV had fuel pressure regulator changed in november of 2004 as part of a recall. Could that regulator have failed.

Are there things that can be tested before heading to a dealer with the problem?

First pick would be fuel pump . Open tank & listen when turned on. You should be able to hear it, Check spark by holding dizy center lead near earth and crank. If no go then crack the nut at the front of the fuel rail and swith on with a clean rag under and see if any fuel flowing out and if there is any sediment in it

SOURCE: 2000 SUZUKI VITARA, Won't start, has fuel, will

Do you mean when you say just won't turn over that the engine does not crank like a dead battery? Or do you mean it will not fire and run? You can take the breather hose off and spray some carb cleaner in it and replace the breather hose and try to start it. If it sputters you are still not getting fuel to the engine. This may be a bad fuel filter. But befoe we go to that lets check the fuses. Under the dash on your left driver side should be a fuse box. The remove the cover over it and look at the diagram. There should be one fuse marked ignition. Follow where the diagram shows you on the box. Sometimes the box has a tool for pulling these fuses. If not then needle nose pliars will work. Once you locate the fuse and have it out then lookk in the side window. There is a wire. If you see it has seperated or melted then replace it with same amp fuse. it is best to check all your fuses one at a time to be sure more then one did not go bad. Once that is all done and you can start your car then your good to go. If you didn't find a bad fuse then look under the hood. There is also a fuse box located there.
it is usually located on one of the wheel wells close to the firewall or windshield. It will have a cover over the top with the names of the types of fuses in it. one may say ignition. Check that one for damage.
If once you are done checking all the fuses and you are not on the road yet then lets continue on to the next item. let me know and I will tell you whats next. Raz

SOURCE: wont start,not fuel problem

hi , i think i have the same problem as you, my engine light flashes and i cant get fuel through the injectors but i have fuel pressure and spark. try these two links which might be helpful, the first explains about the mitsubishi ecu used in your vitara, basicly saying they're **** and break down quite early in its life and the second explains how you can run your own diagnostics test using a paper clip and counting the number of flashes from your engine light, you then compare this to the chart on the web site to find your problem.

mitsubishi ecu site
self diagnostic test

hope this helps you out, karl hodder

can be lots of things.
bad fuel, partial clogged filter.
injector clogs. and other sensors errors.
and others, this is common rail injection system, right?
get a scan tool, and have it always ready. for fails.

I have a 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara and lately it has smelled like gasoline inside the vehicle after it has been parked for awhile and the odor also permeates throughout the garage. There are no visible...

If I were you ,I would remove the plentum and make sure the injectors are not leaking onto the intake manifold and creating a pocket of fuel, witch could cause a engine fire while driving.

My Grand Vitara came on and went off after I got

There are to many things that can cause this problem. The good thing is the Engine light came on so the ECM has detected a problem. If there is an Auto Zone around your area, have the car scanned for the DTC codes a to address the issues the engine has. If there is no Auto Zone, other larger Auto parts store may scan for free and most auto garage now charge any where from $15.00 to $25.00 to scan since they know most larger parts store scan for free. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help.

G8D711S is not alarm system. This is Daytime Running Light module. You can pull out the connector, your front lights won't work when an engine start.

My GV 2002 has a Autostart AS1203 alarm system. There is a description on Internet.
