Question about 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue

Rear passenger window will let down but not up

I think the switch is bad. can i take a wire and cross the leads to get the window to go up until the switch is replaced. problem is dont know which leads to use to get the job done.

You could use a simple piece of wire to cross the pins on the back of the connector on the switch. a 14-16 gauge piece of wire is fine.  it sounds like the switch has gone faulty. 
i think on your vehicle the window switch colors should be
LF=Dark Blue, RF=Light Blue, LR=Dark Green, RR=Light Green this is for window up. just jump these to a positive feed located next to it.

Principles of Operation
The driver power window regulator motor is controlled directly by the master window/door lock/unlock switch (and its integrated "auto down" module). Follow me here: The driver side passenger window will go up and down while operated independently with the switch on its door. However, the driver seat master switch will not control window to go down


Not following you completely.
When you say driver side passenger window, you mean the driver side rear window ?
The window motors get power thru a power window control unit and thru the driver master switch.
You'll need a shop manual with the wiring diagrams to track down the problem.

How to determine if a window switch is bad or if the relay is bad. Are there seperate relays for the up and down functions?


There will be three wires to the switch. with a tester, determine which is hot and jump to one lead then the other. If the switch is bad the window will operate. murf427

There could be a lock controller somewhere that is not working.
I don't have a wiring diagram for your truck.

Generally, the power window motors are grounded thru the doors, or the switches provide ground. In your case the motors are probably grounded thru the doors.
The master switch "overrides" the door switch so you have extra wires that do the same thing. The E wire probably gives the door switch power and the A and C are up and down. The B and D are override circuits from the master that bypass the door switch.
Sometimes the motor is grounded thru the switch then thru the door.

My 2001 GMC yukon el driver window just stopped working 3 weeks ago. No slow down just stopped. replaced switch and motor still not working. Rear passenger has stopped now!!! any suggestions?


Check fuses for one thing, you may have an abraided wire in the harness where it enters the drivers door or where it enters the passenger cabin. You may also have a wire that flexes or is drawn across a rough edge of dash support, or sheet metal stamping.

Both may ocurr together near each other, or the rear passenger door wiring may be damaged in the pillar or along the channel where the wire is run.

This is one of those repairs that takes a very long time to locate and about 15 minutes to repair. If you have a warbler and inductive tone reciever like is used in telephone and communications installations, it could save a fair amount of time trying to locate the damaged wire.
It amounts to clipping the tone lead to each wire of the window lift circuit and following the wiring harness until a tone change ocurrs or tone stops- this would be the area to look for the damaged wire and it may not always visible if it was a fatigue failure.

Rear windows won't go down


You also have Circuit Breakers for your windows, Or your Master Switch ,You can Test the Driver Control Switch or the rear switches by removing the Switches and using the connector Plug and a Jump wire try jumping accross the wires,if they go up or down you could have a Bad Switch,if nothing moves more than likely your Window Motor is bad. BUT first CHECK your Circuit Breakers ,It could be Labeled as accessery Relay or circuit Breaker.

I have a 1994 Toyota Camry and the power window on the passenger side has gone down, under power. Then nothing would happen when I would pulled up on the switch on the driver side main switch and the also...


more than likely one of the switches are bad (down side of switch works but up side of switch dont) being as the switches are wired together if one goes bad other one won't work either take the switch out one of back doors should be same as front passenger door put rear switch in front passenger door if works then u know front door switch is bad if it doesn't then drivers door switch is bad
u replaced window regulator Did that come with motor too??? if not check to see if motor is good
there is two wires going to motor cut isolation back on wires and using some jumper wires attach one wire to positive terminal of a 12 volt battery attach other wire to negative terminal of battery window should move up or down reverse connections and window should move other way

My passenger rear window will go down but not up and its a 2002 kia sportage...where to start


Thru much testing we have found this problem to be relative to the lock out at the master switch. Have not figured it exactly but when the master switch for the rear passenger window is held in the up position the rear works just fine up and down. The only wire diff on that side is the lock out. Still testing, may be that wire shorted to the body or the master switch may just be bad or wired incorrectly.

This may be just a case of inadvertently hitting the window lock out n th driver door window switch by mistake. Check that first. Here's some background on window operation
