Question about 1998 GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

94 jimmy will not run bad fuel pressure regulator?

My jimmy will start some times and sometimes will not. The fuel pressure stays the same 54psi when running and if it is running sometimes it will die and the pressure goes up to 58-60psi. About 62psi when trying to start it. I believe something is stopping the fuel from getting to the spider, . Is this what happens when the reg. goes bad? It runs great when it runs. When it won't start I can throw gas into the butteryfly and it will start right up and then stall when the gas is gone. The jimmy is a 94 with the spider W code I had it running for 20 min shut it off then started again run for 20 min then shut it off and then it would not start. Then when you do get it to run for about a min then hesitate fuel pressure goes from 54 to about 62 and stalls then will not start again. Thanks Brian Steel5217@aol.com

Nothing wrong with the regulator. That is how it is supposed to work, it sounds normal.
I guess you will have to get to the spider to see what is wrong. Fuel delivery to the pot seems normal. Could be something to do with injector circuit, IDK. Sorry can't help more.

SOURCE: motor is not running hot but stall's after 20min

Sounds more like the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). When the Catalytic Converter goes, usually will get other symptoms like lack of power, bad sulphur smell, & a lot of heat coming from under the truck and depending on where it's located, hot floorboards. If you go to a place like Autozone and get a free diagnostic test, the codes would give you a better idea where the problem lies. Best of luck.

SOURCE: 2000 GMC Jimmy, starts up

you say fuel pressure is good, but what is it? what is the fuel pressure when it stalls out? Spec is 60-66 psi and it wont run if its 55 psi. the fuel pump relay should be good if the pump runs. Make sure the ground for the pump is good , G402 should be on left frame rail. you may have had it off to replace the pump? maybe? it may be time to stop guessing and have a repair shop diagnose it for you. You sure have replaced a lot of good parts.

My 1993 jeep fuel line (sending) keeps rupturing, ive had it out 4 times and have replaced all the lines with hi-dollar hi- pressure lines, but it does it again

Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator is not functioning. That should be a vacuum operated diaphragm on the fuel rail on top of the engine. If there is no vacuum to the diaphragm, the pressure will continue to climb until the line blows off or apart.

The jimmy seems to spit and sputter when excelarate

This culprit can be a bad cam sensor, bad fuel filter, or weak fuel pump, or fuel pressure regulator valve. Or simply a clogged misfiring or just bad injector. By testing your fuel pressure first and seeing if after a while the fuel pressure has not dropped in the fuel rail test for say 30 mins. If the pressure stays up that test eliminates the fuel rail pressure regulator. If the pressure coming in is weak all together your filter or pump is bad. If the RPM gauge does not move when this happens it is the crank sensor. If when cold it runs fine and starts running worse after warming up check the cam sensor. There you go need any help ask for me.please rate my solution it is how i earn my achievements. Thanks in advance.

2000 GMC Jimmy, starts up every time, but only runs for 10 seconds then dies. Restarts every time but will not stay running. Replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, CAM position sensor, crank position sensor,...

1996 gmc jimmy 4.3 v6 hard starting on cold starts runs rough for alittle while and sometimes has a high idle.

You should have your fuel pressure checked the problem is one of two things It is either your fuel pump or your fuel pressure regulator. It goes to high idle because it is starving for fuel.

I have a 1995 GMC Jimmy that won't start.

It sounds like a faulty fuel pressure regulator. When you turn the key to the on position the fuel pump starts for an instant to build pressure in the fuel line. If the pressure regulator has allowed too much leakage since the last start then the fuel pump does not have enough time to prime the line. The fuel pressure will still measure ok when the car is running because the leakage is very low. Try turning the key off and on a few times prior to starting and see if the extra pump priming steps help. Also check the vacuum line to the regulator because it needs vacuum to work correctly.

Car needs starting fuel to start but then runs ok.It is a 94 gmc jimmy V6

I'd try a new coolant temperature sensor. It may be telling VCM that engine is already warm, so no need for extra fuel to start cold.

2000 gmc jimmy wont start fuel pump comes on and cuts off but will not start.I have changed the fuel filter and that did not work. Is the pump not building the pressure it needs to start or would my...

the fuel pressure if leaking could cause this the regulator is located under the intake plenum but you should smell gas .if you dont then most likely the pump is bad ,the pump will come on for 2 seconds when the key is on then go off it will not stay on with just the key on only when you crank it will it .so have your fuel pressure checked with a gauge.

When I start my 1999 GMC JIMMY sometimes it starts right up. Sometimes its as if it does not get enough fuel then it starts. I have been told it could be the fuel pump or the fuel injection regulator....

i been having fuel injection troubles myself and seems to me your problem may be your fuel injection pressure regulator, before starting when you turn the key so your dash lights show up and at that same time you should also hear your fuel pump motor spinning which means that its working and sending fuel through so you may have a fault with your regulator,,hope that helps, goodluck.
