94 F150Engine Revs up and down at start up and when put into gear
Engine will crank fine then start to rev up and down until put into drive or reverse. Almost dies when put into drive or reverse...have to wait before pressing the gas, also seems to have even more trouble if the ac or heater is running whn shifting. Doesn't seem to have any problems after you drive it awhile. Seems when you first turn the key into the acc. position it has a popping sound that comes threw the speakers.

do they revs drop off when taking pressure off accelerator pedal when out of gear? if only staying high during gear change it would suggest a worn clutch friction/pressure plate so the engine isn't slowing down when clutch is depressed .I'd also have the OBD codes read to see if there is a sensor/switch at fault , but sounds like the clutch to me
You have internal transmission damage I expect the clutches on third and fourth gear are wiped out. Its either that or a solenoid gone bad that holds those clutches pressure get it in a transmission shop soon to avoid whole transmission replacement costs.
You don't have torque converter shudder. You don't even mention that in your original post! You def had a solenoid issue. My 94 STS did the same thing. I only had reverse, 1st and 2nd gear. Wouldn't shift outa 2nd period. It was a $200 solenoid repair. Car had a 160K on it when that happened. I have almost 170k on it now. Shifts and works fine. you don't need the tranny replaces ad josavv63 indicates.
