Question about 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis

1999 Grand Marquis remote control - no buttons work

There are 2 remotes, one with a new battery. The unlock, lock, trunk release, and panic buttons do not operate on either remote. I tried reprogramming both remotes a number of times with no luck. The power door locks work good. The exterior keypad on the drivers door works. The trunk release button on the drivers door works.

Thank you Sparky1500. Is there any simple way to test a remote, beside trying it on the car?

10 year old remotes go bad often, especially due to moisture retention.

Mustang alarm

Ford sold a Ford branded alarm through the parts department. These sometimes were a dealer installed option on new cars. Mine would randomly stop responding to the remote and I would have the same symptoms as you describe. I had it removed and the original equipment factory system still worked. Be warned, if you have the Ford "accessory" alarm, your key fobs (remotes) are different and the method to program them is different from what you will read online. You can tell if you have the system by looking at your key fob. The standard Mustang key fob is a 4 button (lock, unlock, panic, and trunk). The accessory alarm uses a 3 button remote and clicking unlock twice would pop the trunk. I really wish I had a picture of the remote because there are 3 button Ford key fobs for cars without a trunk release although I don't think you should have one on a Mustang. Long story short, if you have the accessory alarm, you can solve your problem by having it removed but you will need new 4 button key fobs to remotely lock/unlock your doors

Remote door lock key fob will not unlock doors or trunk 2003 mercury grand marquis

There are some testers for the FOB on the parts counter of most major autoparts stores. This way you can find out if its the FOB or the car. Some cars have an Electronic menu which controls the Alarm chirps and response to the FOB. What can happen is a Oil change Tech can erase the wrong setting for the oil change interval and disrupt the settings for other things.

Got a 2003 mercury grand marquis which i bought and didnt come with a remote for the door locks. i have an extra remote from my 2003 ford expedition and need to know how to program it, any suggestions?

usually the truck and car fobs work on different signals. you can get inexpensive fobs on ebay, the car fob will have four buttons with a trunk release button.
once you have the correct fob, its pretty easy.
  • Just remember that you must also re-program your currently working remotes at this time also as if they are new since prior remotes are erased.
  • Max of 4 transmitters can be programmed.
Procedure:
  • Keep the driver's door open.
  • Electronically unlock the doors (Switch on door or working transmitter)
  • 2000-2006: Turn the ignition from OFF to RUN/ON 8 times within 10 seconds, with the eighth turn ending in RUN. If the module has successfully entered program mode, it will lock and then unlock all doors.
  • Within 20 seconds, press any button on an transmitter, and the doors will lock and then unlock to confirm that each transmitter has been programmed. Repeat this step for each transmitter.
  • NOTE: If the door locks do not respond for any transmitter, wait several seconds and press the button again.
  • To exit the programming mode:
    • Turn ignition to the OFF position.
    • Let the 20 seconds expire.
    • The maximum number of transmitters have been programmed.

ATTENTION: You MUST HAVE one working remote to add one more to the system.
If you do not have one working remote right now then these instructions will not work.
You will have to have a Locksmith or dealership use a computer to program the first
remote for you.

Click here to find an Automotive Locksmith in your area to program this remote.

1. Press LOCK button 5 times at 2 second intervals to resynchronize remote.
2. Insert key into the ignition switch. Turn ignition to the RUN position (as far as you can
go without cranking engine). Wait for ignition chimes to stop.

3. Using the working remote, press and hold the UNLOCK button on the remote for 4 to 10
seconds.

4. Within the specified 4 to 10 seconds, continue pressing the UNLOCK button and then
press the PANIC button ( on the programmed remote ) for 1 second and release both
buttons. A chime will sound to indicate that the remote programming mode has been
entered ( allow 3 seconds for chime to sound ).

5. Within 30 seconds of the chime, press and release the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons
simultaneously then press and release just the UNLOCK button on the same remote.
A chime will sound indicating the remote has been programmed. Press and release
the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously and then press the UNLOCK button on
each new remote you wish to program at this time. A chime will sound afer each
additional remote is programmed.

Car will not unlock.

To get inside the car .... Use the key in the lock cylinder, unlock the drivers door to get inside. You shouldn't have to reprogram the fob unless it or the keyless module was changed. There may be a blown fuse that supplies the keyless control module (check the owners manual for location). or wires that lead into the Drivers door may be damaged ... The keyless module is located inside the drivers door at the bottom behind the door panel ... do the unlock/lock and trunk release switches on the inside of the drivers door operate the locks and or trunk release? If so it is not the fuse ... and not the wires to it ... And it could be your BCM body control module, located in the dash board to right of your gas petal. Because the number entry keypad (code for that is on the inside of the right passenger trunk bracket arm) also doesn't work I assume it's not the key fobs themselves. Your 98 manual is correct for your car.
