Question about 1984 Pontiac Fiero

Ignition problem, won't start

Have a 1984 Pontiac Fiero, the other day the car turned over once and stopped. The lights on my dash dimmed and it seemed like my battery was dead. While trying to start it still i heard a crackling noise like an electrical short. Under my dash, the switch attatched to the clutch pedal was smoking. I detached the wires and tried to jump them to see if the switch was the problem. The same thing happened. I checked the wires attached to the starter and it turns out that one of the wires was grounded. I repositioned the wire and tried to start the car. This time it turned over for a split second but sounded like something was still shorting out. I checked all my power connections and cant find another short. But when i try to start the car it acts as if it would if the clutch pedal wasn't depressed, even though i have the wires jumped still.

Your battery may have reversed polarity. The same thing happened to me in my '94 GMC Sonoma. One crank and then nothing except my (+) battery terminal got so hot it almost caught fire. There is no way to test for reversed polarity and even on Autozone's test machine, they swore up and down my battery was good. They refused to warranty it, so I bought another battery. Once installed, my truck ran like a dream again. I took my battery to a different autozone and they warrantied it.

Running lights, marker lights, and dash lights all come from the park light switch of the head light switch. So, possibly you need a new headlight switch. Or, if you have a voltmeter, you can do some testing of circuits to see where power is and where lost. Also check the fuse for tail lights and horn.

I have a 1984 fiero an when I took my stereo out I went to go turn my dash lights on and now they dont turn on why?

often circuits are run in series through the wiring harness, so a loop is created in the connections to continue to other things, In My Malibu I had to keep my original radio in the trunk wired up due to the computer and all the other stuff the radio had when replacing my factory radio with a new one

My left headlight door wont open when i turn the lights on 1985 pontiac fiero

If you open the hood, behind the headlight assembly you will see the motor that lifts the headlight, there is a knob that you can rotate to manually to crank up the headlight until you repair it.

Before you put it up manually, turn on the headlights with the hood open and listen to see of the motor is making noise, if it is you can try a repair kit, otherwise get a replacement from the auto part store or junk yard.

Here is a handy place for Fiero parts including the headlight repair kit I mentioned:

Hope this helps

I have a 1987 Fiero GT that is having a problem with the cooling fan, every time i turn the park light or headlights on the fan turns off and will not come on until i turn the lights completely off.

rewire the fan to a toggle switch inside the car or just hook the fan up direct to your ignition so when the car starts the fan comes on

Where is the brake light relay on a 1984 Fiero

Check the brake light switch. It's located under the dash by the brake pedal. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch. Jump the connector with a paper clip. Be careful not to let the paper clip touch a metal surface. If the brake lights come on then the problem is a faulty brake light switch.

My brake lights work but the tail lights and license plate light don't work every time I turn on the fuse it blows I have a 1984 pontiac fiero.

Remove all bulbs on the tail lights and license plate circuit.
Replace fuse, turn on parking lamps- check if fuse blows without any lamps connected.
If it does, check for short circuit to ground on the taillight/license plate wiring.

If it doesn't blow, re-install one lamp at a time until all lights work. you may have a faulty lamp or lampsocket.

Removel of fuel pump on an 1984 pontiac fiero se

Remove the fuel tank, sits under the car, looks like a casket.

You actually sit to either side of it when you're in the car, that's why it has such a big hump in the middle. Any GM fuel pump works for it.
