Question about 1998 GMC Safari

2 Answers

Hi, 91 GMC Safari Van Passenger Side Auto Door Lock broke its button casing. Now my van looses battery charge in one day of no driving (recharges nicely so not battery issue). I need to pop off the auto lock button case and disconnect so I can eliminate my battery draw gremlin. How to pop this off? Tried but don't want to break it. Where are online manuals?

As far as draining the battery, pull the door lock circuit breaker till you can fix the issue. When you drive the vehicle, you can plug it back in. If your sure the door locks are the problem? In my database for body info, if no screws then there is a keeper, with a keeper you use a flat bladed tool under the edge, slide it along till you find a keeper, then release it. I don't like to fool with keepers, I usually break something. Just my opinion.

SOURCE: 95 gmc safari replaced fuel filter van ran great now wont start

Since you replaced the distributor, are you sure it's properly timed? Hook up timing light and try to crank. It should show you where your timing mark is. It will also verify that you are getting spark.
You need to start a systematic check. Is it electrical, mechanical, fuel related? Need to do more checking and maybe we can get that puppy going.

Good Luck

SOURCE: where is air conditioner recharge port

remember you will always charge an air conditioner on the low side. which is always on the larger hose. there is a smaller one which is the high side so stay away from the small one.. look up near the radiator and see if you see the dryer which is about 3 inches across and 8 inches long and looks like a cylinder.. on this device there is a port where you can charge it .. also this year might be up near the firewall .. they change locations too often .. thanks and holler if you need more. SOURCE: 1998 safari van - removal of passenger internal door panel

You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. then you just remove the bolts to the mirror

I would like to know how I can replace the starter in my 1991 GMC Safari van step by step instrutions would be very helpful.

Disconnect your negetive battery cable at the battery,Under the passenger side front of your van right rear side of the engine is where the starter is located at.Remove the 2 big bolts holding starter to the block(hold onto the starter as you remove the last bolt so starter doesn't fall and rip wires)Then lower starter enough to access the battery feed wire and the solenoid wire(small wire for the solenoid supply) The big bolts are either 15mm or 9/16 the battery supply wire at the solenoid is usually 13mm and the small wire is usually 5/16 reverse the pro ceedure to install.

Battery drains in 1994 safari van

sorry to tell you an open circuit will not drain your battery as no voltage flows through it. usually this kind of problem would be more related to corrosion not letting it charge correctly or a bad alternator that is not putting out enough voltage to charge it as you drive.

97 GMC Safari Cargo: engine turns but will not start

Safari's tend to have problems with the rotor button on the distributer. Your's may be going bad. At first the van will stall as you described, due to a jarring of the motor, ie: a bump. etc., and then it will restart.

After a while the rotor button will fail completely.

I have had this same problem with two safar's and this is the solution that I have found.
