I have sort of the same problem. The front tank registers on my fuel guage, but the rear tank reads empty even after the rear tank is filled. Fuel seems to be flowing from the rear tank, and I ran it until the needle reads "E", then filled the rear tank. I switched to the rear tank after filling, but the guage still reads "E", so I don't know for sure the rear tank is actually sending gas. Could it be the fuel selector switch, or something more difficult?

f150 6 cyclinder, dual tanks. I ran my front tank down to empty, switched over to back tank and now I have problems with fuel leaking from carb and performance is dirt poor.

The switch that you use to change tanks is probably faulty - the switch supplies power for the sending unit in the tank, and to the transfer switch for the gas lines - use a meter to check it

Gas tank will not switch and gas runs out of fuel cap! Fuel gauge shows always full on front tank, goes down quickly rear tank gauge

Hello tlsnyder52: My name is Roger and I will help you. The problem you have is in the fuel select valve. This was a factory recall a few years ago. The recall number is 91S39.What happens is the valve sticks when you switched tanks. This returns all unburnt fuel to the tank you are not using. Basically fills the other tank while the one you are using goes empty. When you fill both tanks the returned fuel has nowhere to go. The fuel has to go somewhere and pushes out the vent. This is not a hard valve to replace. But I would check as if the recall was not performed it may be under warranty recall. The service kit number is F1UZ9B263B and can be obtained from a Ford dealer. Should You need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

How many OHMS is the fuel sending units in a duel fuel tank 1987 f-350 ford

The ohms will vary as to the amount of fuel in the tank, that is how the gauge works. The gauge its self is nothing more than an ohm meter.

Front tank fuel gauge not working

If the gauge works on the rear tank but not the front, the problem is most likely the sending unit in the front tank. You will have to drop the tank to change it. I guess what I would do is, set your trip meter to zero when you fill the front tank. Then, run that tank to the point where the truck is starting to run out of gas and then switch to rear tank. Keep track of how far you can go on the front tank. Then when you refill the front tank reset the trip meter and switch tanks about 20 miles before you think it's going to run out. It's not a good idea to run those pumps dry. Just make sure you have gas in the rear tank. If you do decide to change the sending unit, run that front tank as empty as you can, also, I would change the pump too. In 92, I think the pump or the sending unit can be replaced seperately. The worst thing about changing those in tank fuel pumps is getting the gas out of the tank. No trip meter? Just write down the mileage from the odometer. Good luck.

Front fuel tank will not work

You have duel tanks with a fuel pump in each tank. You also have a fuel pump on the frame rail after the "tank selector". This device only holds a fuel filter that protects the main fuel pump. When you select front or rear tank on the dash, you are selecting which in tank fuel pump will operate. You can check the in tank fuel pump by listening for it to "humm" when the key is turned on..The in tank pumps only feed the main pump and cannot run the engine on their own. Hope this helps

It sound's like you have a graound problem with the wire harness from the fuel tank. Check the connection from the tanks to the fram. Good luck.

yea fords with two tanks are known for getting stuck if you dont switch the tank constantly. you have to get to the valve that switches the two tanks, and free it up. it definitley isnt anything but the valve.

My 1997 F250 has duel gas tanks. After a few days of being parked, I went to start it and it would not start. I switched to the rear tank and it started. I have a Haynes repair manual covering the 1997...

I would start by checking you switch for the tanks to make sure it is working right and if the front tanks fuel pump does not work after you check the switch I would get a 12 volt electrical test light and see if your getting power to the front fuel pump if your getting power to it I would say you have a bad pump . But some times the pump will run but the diaphragm gets weak in them.
