Intermittent dying of 3.1L engine, refuses to start and stay run

On 90 olds cutlass, upon returning to car, it would just crank over as if no spark or fuel was getting to system. Next day, car battery totally dead. Jumped, tried again until jump battery was getting low. As I was contemplating what to do as I sat in the drivers seat, I heard a click of some relay (key was in off position). I then tried it again and it immediatly started. Tried to drive car home but it was still trying to stall as if someone just flipped the switch to the spark or fuel each time I accelerated for about 2-3 seconds each time. Made it across town to home (car tried to die about 10x's), but then next day, battery was completely discharged. Nothing left on, but curious as what relay I heard click is staying energized and stopping the car from running. Is this an EMU problem? The click sound came from the passenger side interior. Is there a relay that would shut down the car by staying energized and also draining the battery.

As far as the battery's concerned , it was cranked until it was weak and you havent been able to run the car long enough to charge it back up. Take it out of the car and have it charged, you're going to need to be able to diagnose your car.
You should check the fuel pressure of the system,if you have low fuel pressure it could mean the fuel fiter is dirty or you have a leak in the system, the system is under pressure to be able to atomize the fuel at the Injector, and maintains this pressure even after turing off your motor. If you get NO pressure, first check the fuses and the relay( this relay is on the drivers side of the engine compartment.
Or, you're fuel pump is bad.

If the fuel pressure is good, Then you may want tocheck cables, spark plugs, or have the coils tested or the crank sensor tested.

But It sounds to me like a fuel problem.

My 1990 olds cutlass supreme will not stay running it has fuel and has spark. It will start then dies immediately. Any tips has brand new fuel pump

It could still be a fuel problem. The only way to be certain is to put a fuel pressure tester on it. Autozone may rent or loan fuel pressure gauges. Easy to hook up to the shrader valve on the engine fuel rail and test fuel pressure. With key on, pressure must be over 40 psi, 40-44psi is what is called for. If pressure drops below 40 after it starts, then you know it was a fuel problem. Either the fuel filter is clogged, or the pump quits because the oil pressure switch is faulty. That switch is tied into the pump circuit, keeps the pump running after the engine is running.

If fuel pressure stays good, maybe problem is in the ignition system. Have the Ignition Control Module tested, also the crank position sensor.

2000 honda crv overheated and died upon deceleration when entering emergency lane now refuses to start why sensor switch or what

Most likely you have a blown headgasket from overheating. Fill radiator, with cap off, crank engine. If coolant comes out of cap like a fire hose, the head is warped. It will usually start if you clean/dry the spark plugs, but just to get it to a shop or home, if it's a short distance.

87 olds cutlass ciera has spark and fuel but won't start

Have you done a compression check? These engines have a tendency, after 80K miles to shear a tooth off the cam gear. What will happen then is that the crank will spin, but the cam won't. This will cause the cam sensor to APPEAR bad because there is no activity. The REAL problem is that since the cam don't turn, the valves don't open and close, thus no compression. The motor is non-interference so if it did break the cam gear (there is no timing chain), you only need to replace the gear, re-timing the crank/cam as you go. If this happened, you will not have even compression because some valves will stay open, some will stay closed.

Why is my 1991 olds cutlass calis hard start & spiting & poping when its hot

Its a hot start issue.

Can be related to low fuel pressure or problem with crank sensor.

Also it can be weak battery or starter.

But possibilities are to be inspected to confirm what exactly it is.------

I have a 1991 cutlass ciera. It ran fine and died while driving. The 6 spark plugs, ignition control module, fuel pump and fuel filter have all been replaced and it still will not stay running. Does anyone...

Thinking crank sensor, don't know if it's a 3.1 or not,3.4?Anyway with the engine running CAREFULLY
tap the crank sensor with a dowel or driveway marker, some long stick. If the sensor is bad the engine
will stumble or quit when you tap it,Same test also will check for broken board in the ecm also.

Car died on road engine turn over but will not start

Try spraying starting fluid into the air intake, with the help of someone else starting the car. As they crank over the car, spray the starting fluid into the air intake. Do this for at least 15 seconds. If the car tries to start up the fuel pump has probably gone bad. When turning the key to the on position do you hear the fuel pump humming? If the pump is not humming the fuel pump is probably bad.

94 Old Cutlass Ciero 3.1 engine starts and dies won't stay running

Replace the oil pressure switch next to the oil filter. When you turn on the ignition the fuel pump runs to prime the system then turns off. Then the oil pressure switch runs the fuel pump to keep the engine running. To test, connect the fuel pump test wire(located at the left front wheel well) to the battery. This will bypass the pressure switch and the engine should run.
