Question about 2004 Ford F350
I had my 99 f250 do that and it was a couple of thing, I had to unplug the connector to the transmission and clean it and also it was over heating because the cooler bypass tube were the cooler houses connect to it it was getting stock. the way it works is if it is to cold outsidi, it will circulate the transmission oil just inside the transmission, when it reaches warm temperature, the tube will openup and the oil starts circulating thru the cooler.

My 97 f350 powerstroke dide the same thing it ended up being the trany if screwed. It needs to be rebuild chances are the planitarys are bad and dumped iron into the valve body
