You know my dad's truck is doing the same thing smelling like gas and getting horrible gas mileage. One thing that might be a huge problem is your mass air flow sensor because that determines how much fuel should be let in. One thing how to determine if your sensor is bad: take off the piece that leads into your air filter box so that you can actually see your mass air flow sensor, and then start your engine up and once you do that give your sensor a couple taps on the rim with a screwdriver or anything and if the rpms drop then you know you have a bad sensor. Here is the site do it correctly incase my directions are bad.

1995 2500 chevy truck is hard to start once it starts acts like it wont kick off surges and blows white smoke what could be problem?

check for a coolant leak as white smoke indicates burning coolant. it could be a head gasket or cylinder head problem. this can also cause a hard start as coolant won`t burn like gas. to do this you will have to get a head gasket test done.

What is causing my truck to smoke when starting after sitting for a while, smoke smells like fuel?

If the smoke is a bluish white you have worn valve seals.

Is the smoke white, blue, or black?

I have a 2001 Chevy 3500. Sometimes when I drive it white/grey smoke comes out the exhaust. Other times it drives normal. Any help

sounds like you have an injector going out it usually starts dumping excess fuel on occasion causing excessive smoke you will have to have it diagnosed to pinpoint the cylinder causing the issue

check turbo tubes for oil. If wet turbo is leaking. otherwise you may have rings leaking, how is compression?
Also there is a crankcase pressure soleniod in left side of enigine block, it should NOT rattle.
