Cv joint replacement 1998 isuzu trooper 4x4

Both left and rite cv joint boots are split, and the truck has 135000 miles on it, so I am going to replace both with new cv joints, I need a good publication to refer to, my isuzu shop manual is a little vague any ideas?

This is a simple job that is why it is not very detailed in your book. Nothing special. Do one side at a time so you have a reference to how to reassemble it. Remove your tire , brake calipers be sure not to stress the rubber brake lines or open the brake lines to air. Remove both upper and lower ball joints. When taking out the ball joints remove the cotter pin and bolt and beat the **** out of the joint for it to release. Then the C/V axles will come right out with a bit out encouragement. You will need a few tools wrenches pry bar hammer. I would buy a Chilton's or a Haynes repair manual for torque specs for reassembly. Good luck and take your time. And unless the axles are making noise you can just replace the rubber boots. Which is alot cheaper.

Where does one find a CV boot that is split to provide for easy replacement on a GMC 4x4? Or how does one replace with a standard boot, does the CV Joint seperate from the axle part?

there used to be a split boot but what was the point?? you have to remove the joint to clean the old grease out anyhow, and yes the joint does come off the shaft, remove the entire unit and do it on the bench, put the shaft in a vise and knock the joint off with a soft headed hammer clean it repack it and install the boot with new grease, good luck

The easy way is to take the inner boot off and take the joint apart. Take new cv axle apart at inner joint and attach to the old one sticking out of axle housing. You will need to get new boot clamp.

Front drive shaft removal for 2001 izuzu trooper 4x4

Under the rubber boot inside the CV joint is a big spring clip round the edge , take this out and then the shaft pulls away from the axle with the CV on it .If you are fitting a new boot cut the old off if not just get the clips off and pull the boot back.

Did you take the shaft out from the wheel hub end too ?

Change a cv boot on a 1996 isuzu trooper

First their are two different front axles in 1996 troopers. Isuzu changed the 4wd system from auto lock hubs to drive control axle.auto lock hube are on the older trooper's with the light and wiper switches on the dash. The same way to change both. Auto hub remove the six hex. screws slide off the hub remove the sirclip from the driveshaft. Newer hub has 6 alan-head screw's again remove them then the hubcap then the sirclip on the shaft and slide off the round spacer. Next 4 bolts from the lower balljoint and the brake's. Pull out the hub until it clear's the shaft remove the inner boot clips slide the inner boot out the shaft. Clean the grease from the end of the axle then with your fingernail feel along any of the 3 tracks in the axle and near the outer end of the track you will find a wirelike split ring slide a screwdriver under the ring and lever it off . Pull out the drive clean off the grease. You will see a sirclip on the end of the joint remove it and slide off the joint. You can replace either boot from that end. The outer joint is held on with a snap ring on the shaft inside the joint and is not easily removed need a hammer and drift to drive off the end and when removed its hard to get the snap ring on the shaft back into its place. You can change both boots from this end as well. Cheers

How do i remove cv axle for a 98 isuzu trooper

Go to my profile I have just explained how to change a cv boot on a Trooper. The axle needs to be taken out to change the boot so the same solution. What you call an axle I have refered to as a drive (short for driveshaft) It takes a lot of explaining so save me a lot of writing if you read the solution I gave for changing the CV boot. Cheer's

Emissionwiz has asked you to clarify your question to best assist with your how to remove the lower ball joint, trooper problem: do u have the ball joint press? The ball joint is presse3d out; the problem...

the upper or lower ball joint is bolted into lower control arm or upper control arm
to remove from knuckle possibly has split pin to remove first before undoing nut. leave nut on ball joint (finger loose) but so you cant see any thread from shaft and use ball joint splitter to seperate or hit side of knucle with ball peine hammer to jolt tapper shaft of ball joint loose from knucle(dont hit to of ball joint shaft)then to remove nut you have to lift top arm & or knuckle to get between driveshaft
