Question about 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Creaking sound while turning steering wheel

There is a creaking noise when I turn my steering wheel but only when I turn it left. I can also feel it in the wheel as I turn it. This happens at any speed and the fron shocks also make a creeking noise when I go over speed bumps or even just little bumps. The sound seems to be getting louder as the days go by. The vehicle still drives fine and nothing seems different, it just makes that horrible sound. I need to find a solution quick because it's driving me nuts. I would describe the same symtoms. Makes me wince when I hear that creakinesss, but nothing seems yet to be affected driving. There is a very slight amount of sloppiness in neutral steering position. Related?

    Creaking sound on 2000 Jeep.
Followup: Turns out tie rod ends were worn, as well as shock stabilizers. Replaced all, aligned wheels, problem totally solved.

I have a similar issue. When I turn hard left the Jeep makes a very loud rubbing/grinding sound and I can feel a dragging in the steering and movement of the car. Would dry wheel bearings cause this?

Have your rack and pinion steering unit checked. Here is a very good video that will help you understand rack and pinion. The creaking noise is likely from the grease in the joints that pivot when you turn your wheels.

2001 Taurus - There is a loud squealing sound when I turn the steering wheel to the left only. Not when I turn right.

Check your power steering fluid level. If it's a creaking noise you may need new struts. If it's a squeal, then it's might be a loose or worn belt.

Everytime I turn slowly I hear this creaking sound. The ride is smooth my steering wheel is great. My power steering is capped off. I dont know what the problem could be. I don't hear it right off when I...

I had a similar problem on my 2002 Escape, but it was also creaked when cold. It turned out to be an outer tie rod joint. It may also be a lower ball joint. My creaking would happen when turning the steering wheel even a quarter turn. I reached behind the tire and put my hand on the tie rod while my wife slowly turn the steering wheel back and forth. I could feel the very obvious vibration. Try the other side to see if you can feel the difference. Can you hear it when standing outside the car, and tell which side?

When turning left or right steering makes a creaking noise mainly from drivers side wheel, also when stationary drivers side makes creaking noise when pushing down on the wing, after the car has cooled...

This sound is coming from your strut. Sometimes they will get water in the seals, or dirt, and they will start creaking exactly as you describe. This isn't a big problem unless you can't live with it, and if this is the case, just replace the strut on that side. When the car bounces when you press on that side, then you need to worry about that strut, but otherwise, it's ok.

There's a chance that the ball joints need grease. This should help, however once they have started to make noise like that due to lack of grease, they usually have gone bad. Replacement may be the only remedy. Hope this helps.
