Question about 1995 Audi A6

My heat won't work! Air blows out, new thermostat

I have a 1995 Audi A6 Sedan. The heat worked last winter great, a/c great in the summer and now heat wont work. A mechanic put in a new thermostat and it still won't work. He thinks it is something electrical and to do with climate control. Air blows out, but is cool air. Anyone know anything about what it could be, how to fix and what it approximately costs? Please help!

I was in a warm place and the air conditioner suddenly went warm, I took the fuse out and put it back. the air con then blew cold again. I drove to a colder climate and the heater didn't come on.

I found an electric motor under the windscreen motor mechanism that moves flaps in the blower box was open circuit, I removed and cleaned the motor and it started to work again. Now the flap moves when I adjust the temp but the temp is not right. any idears? The diagnostics say sporadic block on temp flap and sporadic open on temp sensor in roof lining. The air bag light also stays on for 4-5 minutes when I drive the car

My clima control doesn't seem to work properly either.

The ventilation and temperature works but very little air comes out of the vents.

Also if I choose the vents manually with the clima control buttons to windscreen, foot area or middle, no change is happening.

    Please help...

The hot water from your engine cooling system is not getting into the heater core. Check out the valve that admits water into it.

Fuses are located by the side of the dash board when you open the driver's door. The fuel pump fuse is situated in there.

SOURCE: My infrared remote does not work. I have an Audi A6 1995

Do you have memory seats as well? If so follow these steps I am going to refer to the keys as A and B as you have 2 of them
1) Unlock car with key A
2) Turn ignition into ON position with key A and roll down the window
3) Point Key B at IR Sensor and Click twice (perform both clicks under 5 seconds)
4) Turn off ignition and pull Key A out
5) Turn ignition into ON position with Key B
6) Point Key A at IR Sensor and Click once
7) Turn off ignition and Pull Key B out

Key A should be programmed as the Master Seat Program and Key B should be programmed for the Secondary seat program
So when you set your memory seats Key A is for Memory Position 1 and Key B is for memory position 2
if you don't have memory seats then you only have to point the receiver at the sensor and click once. That should just sync the IR Frequency and Codes

It sounds like the system is fried. Based on the description, it is just pulling in the outside air and not doing anything to heat or cool the flow. Unfortunately, this is a job for your preferred mechanic.

Heater and defroster don't work well

Connie this sounds like your thermostat in the engine is stuck open not letting the water stay in the engine block to heat up. The fix is to replace the thermostat with a new one that will allow the water to stay in the block to warm up. The typical symptoms of a stuck open thermostat is that the air will blow somewhat warm but never hot in the winter time, but it will take a few miles for the air to warm up at all. I would check with the dealership and find out what degree thermostat to replace it with. I run a 180 degree in the summer and a 195 degree thermostat in the winter just to have hot heat in the winter. I hope this helps

I had no heat after replacing the water pump on my 96 Audi A6 quattro. After reading the last post, I found a bleeder on one of the hoses going to the heater core. I just turned it and it allowed the air to escape. Then I had heat.

I have a 2002 audi a6 quattro and has oil dissapearing, but no signs of it on the ground, this problem only happens in winter, summer the car is pefectly fine, please help

If your car has oil cooling lines, what happens is expanding in heat, no leak, contracting, getting smaller, in cold, seal do not seal properly, and then leaks occur.
Please let me know what you find.

Coolent system fault symbol Audi A6

It could be that the thermostat is stuck in the open position thus providing maximum coolant flow through the engine when the engine is still cold, ie from a cold start. (The thermo should close when the engine is stopped and cold and it opens up once the coolant temp increases and the engine has been running for a few minutes.) Once the engine is hot maximum coolant flow between engine and radiator is normal.

Do you also find that your heater takes a while to provide warm air to the cabin in winter when you notice this condition?

If you do not know when the thermostat was last changed then I would suggest you change it. ( If it malfunctions and sticks in the closed position you will really have a problem). The radiator/engine coolant could no doubt do with a flush and change in any event as it should be done every 2 years. If you don't know when it was last done - do it. Cooling systems tend to be a neglected part of essential vehicle maintenance.

Audi a6 heaters not given out hot air

this is more than likely a problem with your thermostat in the cooling system .heres a few things to check to be sure make certain your blower fan is on high and temp setting is in the hottest setting check to see if   air is coming from your heater ducts  also be sure to thoroughly let the engine warm up 10 to 20 minutes  before checking. if the air is blowing but  luke warm still your thermostat is stuck in the open position  and will cause the engine to run to cold and performance will also suffer as will your heat will not be sufficient  to heat the passenger compartment  this repair should cost no more than $150 max to replace buy a repair shop    this is a  common problem in older cars and this is generally   a quick  repair to be made  for almost any repair facility  should take under 45 minutes to complete once repair is started
