Question about 2001 Audi A4

Audi A4 Clutch Switch

I got in my 2001 Audi A4 1.8T and pressed the clutch in to start the vehicle this morning. The car was cranking but would not start and the "press clutch pedal to start" was showing up in the dash cluster. Audi's have an information center in between the tach and speedometer. Do you know what this might be. Obviously my first thought is the clutch but is it possible that it may be the clutch switch?

You have the clutch switch mounted on top of the pedal, just like the brake, replace it....

My clutch has a high bitting point on my audi a4 1.8 non turbo the car is on a n-plate is the does it need a new clutch or can it be adjusted

The clutch doesn't have an adjustment for pickup but Audi clutches usually grab high ^^^so your clutch, long as it isn't slipping under hard acceleration, is fine.

I have a 1997 A4 audi and it will start without press the clutch is this right?

Yes, there is a switch above the clutch pedal that prevents starting unless the pedal is depressed. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Either your clutch safety switch has gone bad, or the starter is defective.
Remove the plug for the safety switch(on the pedal bracket next to the clutch pedal). Jump the wires together, try to start.
If it doesn't start, you will need to check out the starter

Audi a4 tdi stiff gearchange worse when hot 1197 model

tandard practice to change the oil on a clutch replacement. Was the replacemmiles it's covered, but it's not sounds like the gearbox oil need changing. You don't say how many miles it has done. Gear box oil is not usually changed in a clutch replacement. Did an Audi garage carry out the rlacement? It could be the cable needs adjusting to allow the clutch to have free movement

moselecm, Audi's transmissions are known for very late clutch engagement, so that part is normal - they're built that way and are not adjustable. To be sure it is really slipping due to wear and not just unfamiliarity, put the car in fifth gear at about 30mph and FLOOR the gas. If it's going to slip, that's when it will slip.

As for the fluid, it shares a reservoir with the brake fluid reservoir - take a look there at the fluid - what you see in there will be the condition that both the brakes and clutch are operating under.

I have to leave in a few minutes for an out-of-town wake, but I'll photograph the wiring schematic pages in my manual (I have the manual for the B5 A4), and post them online, and I'll provide you a link to the pics. I should be able to do this tomorrow morning, and once it's up, I'll post a reply here with a link to the pics.
