Question about 2001 Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

"Service Stability System"

That message came up when I backed out of the driveway this morning. It stayed on all the way to work (30 highway miles). When I turned into the parking lot, the car died and I had to put it in Neutral to restart and park it. Smelled burned rubber when I got out. Any ideas?

I'm having strange problems with my 2008 Chevy HHR LT - no dashboard warning lights come on and the installation of a new throttle body did not solve the problem (see details below).

sounds your variable valve timing solenoids are going out there easy to replace their on the top passenger side of engine you do have to remove the air filter resonator tube to see them, replace the intake and exhaust solenoid at the same time

Possible CKP sensor. Try to have codes pulled first, a local Checker or Autozone can retrieve them for you.

ESP/BAS, ABS, TCS, indicator lights came on at same time

Usually a bad wheel speed sensor. But when warning lights come on, there are always trouble codes stored in the computer. Get the codes read and then you'll know where to start your diagnosis.

I'm having trouble with my '98 Olds Intrigue with less than 12,000 miles. The transmission slips, (The guy at the dealer says "flares up") when it first starts in the morning and after riding on...

No, do not junk it, those transmissions (4L60) are all over the place, and with only 12,000 miles the engine and body are probably in very good condition-you have a 3.8 engine, and that is a very durable engine. You can get a trans out of a car at a junkyard, check Craigslist or ebay, and find someone who would install it-probably could do the whole thing for less than $800 if you do a little research. I have a 00 Intrigue with a 3.5, 135,000 miles, and it is a great car-I just drove it cross country from outside Philadelphia to Los Angeles, in 2 1/2 days (2900 miles) and got over 30 mpg-that car you have is worth saving in my opinion.

1998 Volvo V70 with potential transmission problems?

Yes, it's the 'pnp' switch (also known as the inhibitor switch) which is on the side of the transmission.

I own 2 Volvo 960s (3 litre automatics) which are similar in many respects ... and have that flashing arrow. It's a well known fault and you don't have much to worry about.

Rather than write it all here, you can read what I wrote as an ebay guide about it at http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Volvo-960-Automatic_W0QQugidZ10000000003233806

I did put similar info on my website at http://www.glennsmart.btinternet.co.uk/volvo960.html with photos

Though the ebay guide is better ...

If you haven't got time to read it ... forget the flashing arrow and put a bit of black tape over it ... My wife's car has (192,000 miles) had that arrow flashing for 3 years. My car (100,000 miles) has had that flashing arrow since I bought it 1 year ago.

I did change the pnp on both cars ... but you also need to have the computer error reset by Volvo to have the light extinguished. Don't worry ... keep driving.

it sounds like your alternator is going out to me. you can go to your local autozone and have it checked. Also if your check engine light is on they will check for codes for free that will tell you the problem.
