Variable Speed Sensor on 99 taurus

I think you mean the Vehicle Speed Sensor(VSS).It is located on the transmission, somewhere on the portion of the housing that contains the differential and axles. Most speed sensors are a 2 wire unit, and often the wires are tightly twisted to reduce electromagnetic interference(this will probably help in identifying it)

2002 ford Taurus tcc transaxle code I replaced it but trans is still making noise and loses gears sometimes shifts fine when it catches usually when it warm any ideas? Thanks

what trouble code you getting if you are getting code p1700 transmission system malfunction.could have internal transmission failure noise you hear could be transmission oil pump or torque converter failure, either one will cause transmission shift problems.

P1744 enginge code tcc solenoid circuit

DTC P1744 is "TCC - Excessive Slip Detected During Full TCC Engagement". Which means that the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) is disengaged or the EPC pressure is at the minimum.

The most likely cause is a sticking or bad TCC solenoid inside the transmission. You can check the connector at the transmission to make sure it is clean and tight and that it is not damaged in any way.

If the TCC and wiring is okay, then pressure testing of the transmission will need to be done.

A new torque converter from Ford is about $265.00 and about 4 hours labor. Throw in a $40.00 TCC solenoid and I don't think it'll be more than $700.00 at worst.

If the pressure test is good then it's just going to be the $40.00 tcc solenoid and the cost of the transmission oil and filter changed which should be around $150.00

Good luck and hope it's just a loose wire harness to the solenoid which would cost $0.00 and just your time to locate the break in the wire. The other thing to, is to add a transmission fluid additive that would restore the clutch pack in the transmission and Torque Converter.

Will a transmission #ax4s from 1988 ford windstar fit a 200 windstar with transmission # ax4s

I dont think that will work ....1988 was aod and aode trans

The AXOD-E was renamed AX4S in 1993. In addition to the name change, improvements in the lubrication of the gearset and capacity upgrades were made. A centrifugal piston assembly was implemented in the intermediate clutch position to improve 1st-2nd and 2nd-1st shift quality and an increase in the clutch's durability was made on some models. High energy friction materials were also introduced. A new twin piston torque converter clutch (TCC) was introduced with the AX4S and the AX4N on some models. The transaxle pan on this model will sometimes read "AXOD Metric" since it's based on the AXOD transaxle. The data plate code for this transmission is "L."
Applications:
The Ford AX4S automatic transmission is a four-speed electronic overdrive transmission used in 1995 to 2000 Ford Windstar minivan. The transmission is also used in 1991 to 2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable, and 1993 to 1995 Ford Taurus SHO models. The AX4S is a second-generation version of the AXOD and AXOD-E transmissions used in 1986 to 1991 Ford Taurus.

Taurus won't move..........

We had the same problem and I found this post somewhere on the net and it worked! We pulled the sensor off today and are looking for a new one but it does run fine without it for now. 15th Jul 2007, 21:04 Bought my wife a 99 Ford Taurus at auction. Like others the Transmission sensor gave out. A temporary quick fix is to open the hood, and simply pull off the sensor connector plug on top of the transmission. The transmission will now operate properly in both OD and drive. You will notice your rpm's are steady as your speed goes up - loss of fuel economy due to the failed sensor ( to technical to explain here...). Two things to do: Change out the old transmission fluid immediately - its gonna require synthetic fluid at a higher price, but is worth it as it shifts far better now. And change out the coolant. In fact, I suggest changing out ALL of the fluids and start clean. Until you get the sensor replaced your fuel economy will **** for a while, but its better than not having wheels at all and it IS safe to drive.
