Question about 2003 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
Can anyone help me with my a class.its an A 140 clutchless & was fine until last week when i broke down & couldnt get it into gear.2 days later i went back to it & it drove ok apart from a slight snatch when u change gear.now they have gone again theres an F on the dash where it supposed to show you what gear your in.no fluid leaks n goes in fine when engine is off.pls help.many thanks. I have a similar problem in that I can use 2nd gear but can not shift into any other gear. There is no indication on the dash board that there is a problem.
Its a part inside the gearbox called the k1 clutch assembly, that has gone faulty. Unfortunately no quick fix.

If you take it to mercedes they will charge £3500 and will replace the gearbox, Alternatively you can change the shifter valve £25, new sump and filter as they have changed, fit a magnet inside the gearbox as the early A didnt have one. Fresh oil and see how you get on, the control unit for the gearbox sits inside the gearbox £1000 roughly for a new one but it has to come from mercedes in germany where it is coded to your chassis number, 2nd control units are not an option!!!!!!!
