Most often the leak is at the fuel line connection at the carb. Replace this gasket and check the fuel filter at the same time. Do not use thread sealant! Do not drive it with this leak!! Frankster016

Diagram "fuel system" 1984 Chevrolet G-30

I usually just buy steel fuel line of the correct size and use the old line as a guide to bend up the new one. Cut off excess and make new double flare. Much cheaper than trying to buy stock part.

Fuel pump replace

I jjust did this so go to parts store after removing old fuel pump to show the counter salesperson. There are two bolts that hold fuel pump to the side of the block on front right side facing the truck. Remove gas line first from pump, the the 2 bolts that hold it to the block . repeat sequence on installation and put some(1/8 cup), gasoline down the carbuerator.then thry to start. repeat if truck fails to start. Or try using starting fluid in an aeresol can. just a few squirts should work. good luck Herb

It doesnt seem to be getting enough fuel. When i drive I will have the gas pedal all the way down to the floor it may start to move may not. If i put it into neutral it will eventually start to get enough...

1. Disconnect the Neg battery cable
2. Replace the fuel filter
3. trace the fuel line from the gas tank until you find the filter
4. remove the filter and make sure U replace it with a new and all the specs match(psi must meet vehicle standards)
5. installation is the reverse of these steps
6. purge the fuel system of air bubbles
7. start vehicle with a see thru plastic container loose fuel line from the carbuerator and drain into plastic container until you get a steady stream clamp off the hose and reattach to carbuerator

Smell of gas while driving is very noticable inside of the car.

Sounds like one of the rubber hoses in the engine bay may be leaking. Could also be a leak somewhere around the carbuerator or fuel injectors.

Turn on the car and look/smell your engine bay. Look for anything that may indicate a leak or try and follow your nose. Leave running for awhle, and if you still can not find it, turn car off, and check all lines again.

Fuel drip (leak) under car close to fuel tank

Yes, that sounds like the problem. The filter is usually attached to the steel fuel lines with a short piece of rubber hose (not sure about vw though) which over time will dry up and split, allowing fuel to leak. I checked, and a replacement is about $30 (much more from the dealer) . If it uses the 2 short hoses, it will come with them, and hopefully that will be the cure. DON'T park car inside a garage until this is fixed, fumes will build up and can ignite in a closed area just by flipping on a wall light switch or starting the car.

Not getting fuel to digital carbuerator

Replace the fuel pump.If you live up North then in some cases where the air is real cold and nippy the fuel lines will actually leak flaky gas into the pump without it on to pump it to the carb, therefore corrosion and rust seize the Fuel Pump until it doesn't turn on when the key is in the 2nd position.
