Does this happen often in Chevy motors? The mechanic said they just changed a 5.3 liter with the same problem. 99 Chevy Silverado

It is fairly common. I have owned two chevy trucks and both had intake manifold gasket issues that caused coolant loss. They were both 5.7L but similar in design. Head gaskets can cause the same issue but not as common. After 85-100k miles you have to be aware the intake may need work.

If it does there may be a recall on it. Always check with the dealer before doing a big repair. Even though the truck is old they may still do it for free.
