I have a 1993 Oldsmobile delta 88. 3.8 l v6 automatic transmission. when im driving it wont go past 22 mph. if i shift with my gear selector i can get it to go faster, although i dont know exactly how fast, because im not trying to burn the trans up. in the past month this is what i have done to the car. replaced coil pack oil change coolant flush replace coolant bypass hose remove clean re instal radiator replace serpentine belt replace iac sensor replace vacuum modulator removed cleaned and reinstalled mass airflow sensor. i was messing around with my test light and i noticed that the connected that sits next to my D10?, connector was not receiving power, but i dont know what it is, so i dont know if that particular connection needs a load. i have my abs light on i have an intermittent check engine light. i just received the Chilton book on my car. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
What code are you getting ? I would start there and what are you refering to as D10 ???. have you checked your catylic convertor to see if possibly plugged, loosen exhaust at exhaust manifold or pull your O2 sensors out, this will cause an exhaust leak but will relieve some pressure on exhaust to see if this is indeed the exh. plugged. then drive it and see if it made a difference in shifting and power. Good Luck

Sounds like the solenoid that locks up the torque converter. This is a mechanical device that locks up the torque converter at around 31 MPH. Pull the shifter into a lower gear (normal drive rather than overdrive) while you re driving about 33 mph. You will feel the car **** a little as it drops the lock up soleniod pin out. Shift it back and forth between overdrive and drive at this speed...33 mph or so.... as long as you can feel this happening a few times. I'd say to do it 10 - 30 times. This will not hurt anything but if it is mechanically sticking, it might help to solve the problem
There are a few other things I might suggest but this will first be a good test. If you drive the car in second gear (much slower to not over rev the engine), it should not ever stall because the torque converter should not lock up anyway.
This problem will not set an OBDII code or turn the check engine light on at all. This will make your car stall when comming to a stop or turning a corner. The car will quickly restart. This can be a very intermitent problem.
Good luck

Check the spark on each plug wire with a calibrated spark tester. One can be bought at most parts stores. If two plug wires that are next to each other are bad then replace coil pack. There may also be a bad ignition module. Also check the crankshaft position sensor.

i have not had it scanned as i have no money to waste and most places that scan for free can only scan obdII cars ie 96 and newer, i haven't checked the cat, but i figured the cat would give me more of a pick up problem then a stall, but i will defiantly check today. Also, in reference to the d10 im not sure what the connector is actually called, a friend of mine called it the "d10 connector plug " not sure what i means though.
again in reference to the d10 it was looking in my schematic and i believe that is the circuit name
