SOURCE: Are the rear drum brakes on 1997 stratus self adjusting or manual

It should be self adjusting (when u back up and apply the brakes, it adjusts ), and can also be manually adjusted (thru removal of the rubber plug on the backing plate). The adjuster (star wheel) can seize due to rusting and it won't adjust automatically or manually. Whenever u do a brake job, spray it w/ wd-40 and turn it back and forth several times to make sure it is free, then I put a dab of high temp. brake grease on the threads (only a small amount, as u don't want it dropping off and getting on the brake shoes).

SOURCE: remove the rear brake drum on 2004 Dodge Caraven

No just make sure your emergency cable is off and take a large hammer an hit it around the edge or corner lightly and spin at the same time also try pulling with your other hand as you spin this is a technique all mechanics use its very unlikely that you will have to loosen up the shoes with a brake spoon.REMEMBER THE OUTER ROUNDED EDGE ONLY WHERE ITS THE THICKIST.

How do I tell if the rear brakes on my 1997 dodge stratus are anti-lock brakes?

If you have anti-lock brakes you should have extra brake lines and a pump in front of the master cylinder.

Dodge Stratus-1999.I do not have the owners manual for this car. Rear drum-brakes with half-moon adjusters and small springs. How do these adjusters work.and how the small springs are important?...

Try backing up and pulling the emergency brake until the car stops, to adjust the brakes. This works on some cars....not for sure on yours.

I have a 98 dodge stratus, are the rear breaks rotors or disc?

You do not require a mechanic to do this job. lst remove any wheel front or back. You probably have front disk and drum on the back.
To remove the rotor, you will see two bolts holding brake capalier on the rotor. Remove these and pry the capalier from the rotor. Now you need to remove the pads. Simple to remove, but when replacing you need a 6 inch c clamp to force the pressure mechanism back into the rotor in order to replace the pads. Remove the rotors and have them researfaced any any machine shop. Cost around $10 per rotor. Pick you up some antisizing compound and high temp grease. Follow instructions on the label. Now remove a back wheel, if you do not see a rotor then its a drum. To remove a drum you will need a several tools to replace the drums. Purchase these at Harbor Freight or Sears. Much cheaper at Harbor freight. Now remove the other wheel and repair one wheel at a time, by checking back wsith the wheel that has not been disambled. Before replacing have the drums reserfaced. Now once the job is completed you need to tighten up the wheel by using the special tool which you purchased. Tighten a little at a time AND ONCE THE WHEEL becomes hard to turn back off a turn. Do the same thing to the other wheel. May take you all day to do the job. But it's the way I learned to do a brake job. Hope this is helpful.

Cant get spring of rear brakes to change them

There are brake spring tools that can be found at your auto parts store. I would use a screwdriver and long nose pliers when the proper tool wasn't available.

No brake fluid flow to right rear brake

the stratus is know for clasped rear brake hoses .This stops the flow off brake fluid. try opening the brake lines at the master cylinder that go to the rear.pump up brakes first! if you got fluid than check the brake line if this is rear disc brakes on the line at the rear will be a built in proportioning valve.if drum loosen rubber hose line before the rubber part to see if you have fluid. If you do replace the brake hose! On you 74 challenger by the way i love dodge! any way on the valve there is a small button on the front of the proportioning valve that pops out it needs to be tap in lightly. also hit the brake peddel kind of hard a couple off times if that doesn't work. thanks for your question

p.s that hex bar on the is a junction not a proportioning valve .
