When u put the key in the on position, the lights turn on along with radio. But when i try to start it ..... it doesn't even try to kick the engine over. Is it the starter like i think it is, and if so where is it, i was going to try to hit it to get it to turn over but i cant find it.

if you turn the car to run is your security light staying on or flashing continusly.HEY THERE, this is what is called security mode. If you so much as disconnect the battery the system must be relearned. The manule way goes like this;put your key in ignition. putt a battery charger on it,at least 10 amp. charge. know turn the key as if you were trying to start it, as soon as you here the starter click let go of the key. let it sit with the key in the run position for at least 10-20 min. go get a coffee, then turn key off wait 10 sec,s start it. The security light will flash and then go out if you were sucsessful
May be neutral safety switch, put into neutral and try to start. If that works have switch replaced its on the transmission. Even if it starts that way it wont take long before the car wont turn over in that position.
That might be a possibility. Asssuming when you say it wont start you mean it won't crank over. First check battery voltage at the battery with a dvm when you turn the key to the start position. Then check the voltage at the starter when you turn the key to the start position. If both readings are the same and you must have a reading of at least 12dcv. Try turning the ignition key to the on position( not the start) and jump the positive voltage from the starter to the solenoid terminal. The starter should crank over if the proper voltage is present. If the starter just clicks or just attemps to start. yes, you need to replace your starter
Hello, With the key in the steering unlock position, but not far enough to turn the dash/radio on, your key will turn. I think your shift interlock switch/solenoid has failed and will need to be replaced. This quick test that I have described will let you start and drive you vehicle to get repaired.
if the security light comes on when you turn the key to the run position (just before you reach the start position) and doesnt go off after a few seconds it is a security system issue, which is real common on that vehicle, you would have to replace the ignition lock cylinder along with the passkey wiring, but if you just leave the key in the run position for like 20 minutes the light will turn off and you can turn the key forward and start the vehicle, YOU WILL HAVE TO DO THIS EVERYTIME YOU WANT TO START THE CAR. If the security light does not stay on for more than a few seconds your probably looking at a bad starter and its under the intake manifold so its real fun to change
try to check if the starter relay clicking while you start. If no maybe bad connection from ignition key. If the relay clicking maybe the connection to starter or the starter itself is damaged. try to direct the sol. of starter to batt. positive if it kick your starter is good.
mine is doing the same... all i did was reconnect the battery...and it worked fine...but know my hood wont open!!! so i cant fix the cable on the battery!!! i pull on the darn cable so hard and the hood still wont budge!!!
