Would the water pump leak even when the car has been sitting for 9 hours? I can go to work, and when I come out, I can see the leak. Would that be the water pump?

Your coolong system becomes pressurised when you drive, nine hours seems a little long to stay that way, it might not be the water pump. it's a good idea to check and make sure ALL your hose fittings are tight because they tend to loosen on older hoses because the rubber hose compresses.

try this first and see how you go.

No it sounds like water is coming up out of the expansion tank. Have you been adding radiator fluid because you see a leak? The expansion tank is a clear tank to the left/right of the radiator and fluid will drip out from a tube from this if the radiator is overfilled. Put a piece of clean cardboard under the vehicle and use it to see if that is where it leaks from. The water pump leak would be coming from right in the front center of the motor about a foot back from the radiator. This would be unusual if the water pump was the culprit. Good Luck!

Yes, water pump could link even if it just sitting there for hours. But i would rather not jump into that conclusion, other causes of water leak could be just broken radiator hose and other water connections that simply needs retightening or replacement. check on this first before going to your water pump

On 2002 chevy malibu do u have to let it set for 24 hours after changing water pump

If you used a gasket sealer on the water pump gasket, or a silicone based gasket maker, and the gasket sealer directions say to let it set for 24 hours to fully cure, or to reach full strength, then yes, let it sit for 24 hours so the sealer can do it's job.
Otherwise, it will probably leak and have to be re-done.

Need direction too remove water pump on 5.2

1. Remove the serpentine belt, use a socket wrench on the tension pulley to release the belt. 2. Remove the air conditioning unit, sorry EPA, and remove the fan assembly. There are at least eight long screws to remove, make a note of where you pulled each screw, for reinstallation. 3. Remove the thermostat, it is under the large hose on the top of the engine. 4. Remove the water pump assembly and short hose, slowly. 5. To reinstall, get Indian head lubricant sealer for the gasket installation. 6. Install the water pump with screws and hoses, let the gasket sealant cure for two hours before installing the fan and air conditioner unit. 7. After two hours, reinstall all units and fill with antifreeze. Let the car sit for an hour to check for leaks. After an hour with no leaks, start engine and check for leaks. After all leaks have been fixed, check thermostat gauage and top return hose for heat. 8. your done.

I would do a sniff at the tail pipe to make sure you are not pumping coolant out the exhaust pipe.
sound more like a bad gasket than a bad water pump to me.

How do I replace my 2004 Saab 9 3 linear's water pump.

Re : the computer , they better cover it under warranty or they ****.
Re : the water pump , you have a leak and they say it is the water pump , I have no reason to doubt that they have honestly checked out the problem and determined that a new water pump is the only solution but , damn $ 1000 is pretty steep. I would look around for another mechanic for a second opinion and a quote. Avoid dealerships. Not sure what engine you have but i just looked in my saab with a 2.3 and hope I never have to do mine. I am pretty good with a wrench but I know there would be lots of swearing involved.

How to remove a 2003 GMC Sierra water pump

I personaly dont see many water pump gaskets leak, but instead there is a weep hole that they leak from when they wear out. they are designed this way. which is common. reason it may leak with ignition off is now the pressure builds up verses being cycled through the engine and doesnt reall have time to squirt out.and it just finds a way out with engine off which would be your weep hole most likely.

Its not hard to fix or replace water pumps on the gas engines. there should be the large A/C and powersteering bracket that can be removed and sometimes if you dont have clearence the alternater bracket. its not very hard. basic tools work just fine. the only thing that may be alittle hard is the fan nut. you will need a large wrench and something to stop the pully from spining while loosening and tightening that nut. should take about 2 hours or so. IIRC13mmm, 15mm bolts, 9/16 bolts and 10mm and 8mm bolts. that all you need.other than the large wrench. pipe wrench will work but you need something to prevent the pulley from movning. thats very important.

Good luck. I hope i answered your question.
