What causes the camshaft position sensor fault on a 58 1.2 VW Fox?

Try to clean the connectors from the Camshaft sensor to the control box. There are only a few possibilites for this problem. The grounding of the sensor, bad pickup contacts or a bad circuit in the control box which receives the signal.

You may be able to find some Diagrams at Autozone.com and when you register your car for free you get access to the pictures of the Fusebox and chassis diagrams. Your car may be less common than most at this site so you may have to try other sources.

I would also suggest AboutAutomobile.com for Consumer complaints and investigations about defects. Blogs from VW owners, catagorized by model or 1.2L engine discussion could also help you.

I hope my solution gives you a successful outcome.

A friend has a 1988 VW Fox but does not have a manual or fuse box cover and I am trying to tind the fuse and number on the fuse box which controls the dip on the headlamp globes.

Counting from left to right, it will be fuses number 8, 9, 10, and 11. There is a seperate fuse for each function: Right low, Right high, Left low, etc..

Clicking/ticking noise under the hood?

It's called a lifter. It is not serious. Keeping your car under good maintenance should keep the noise down but you will always hear it until you get the lifters replaced. Or that is what i was told. I have had my 1988 Fox for ten years now and it has always made that noise. Don't worry. :)
