I have a 1996 6 cylinder Camaro and the tension pulley just broke off the motor. Are there any fixes

Tensioner Pulley is grinding


Remove the serpentine belt(s) and spin all the pulleys by hand. If one sounds loud, replace it.

1996 Saturn the belt pulley located towards the top of the engine broke. What type of pulley is it - idler or tension? I do all my repairs, is this one I can do and procedure? Can't find anything in...


if it is attached to a spring loaded arm it is a tension puller, otherwise it is an idler, the idler is known to be an issue, you can unbolt it easy enough but is a bit tricky squeezing it past the wheel well unless you jack up the engine a little bit.bring the old pulley with you when you go for a new one just to be sure they give you the right one.

Timing belt broke at about 55 miles per hour. do you think the valves are bent and what parts do I need to buy other than belt? Oh 2001 hyundai sonada with 2.6L motor. THANKS Jimmy


The 2.4l and 2.5l engines are interference engines, meaning it is highly likely that you bent your valves when your timing belt broke. Besides the timing belt, you may need a new belt tensioner and pulleys. I would replace the water pump too.

Replace belt tensioner on 1998 camaro v6


You'll need a socket and breaker bar to do this job easily. The socket will be of the size 9/16 to 3/4 in that range. Place the socket on the retaing bolt for the tensioner pulley and pull it towards the side that it moves easily, it will only move one way. While holding the tensioner take the serpentine belt off of the uppermost pulley with the other hand. release the tensioner and hang the belt with a piece of coathanger as not to let it slip off the remainig pulleys.Then remover the teensioner pulley retainig bolt and reverse order to replace the pulley and belt.

A pulley broke on my 1996 mazda millenia and im trying to find out which pulley it is.


you're not giving me much to go on,but I'll guess it's the 'serpentine belt tensioner pulley' identified by the 'arm 'it was attached to being spring loaded to maintain belt tension.replacements are available.check belt condition while you're at it.

I have a 99 mitsubishi diamante and i broke the power steering belt how do i put it back on


Looking at the front of the engine you should see, from left to right, the PS pump, a tensioner pulley, and the crank pulley.

Loosen the 14mm fixing bolt and the 14mm fixing nut on the tensioner pulley.
On the bottom there is a 14mm adjuster bolt, loosen it to slide the pulley downward. It helps to have a swivel socket to access this bolt.
The belt goes around the outside of all 3 pulleys.

The alternator belt will need to be loosened to get the PS belt on behind it.
Between the Crankshaft pulley and the ac compressor pulley you will see another adjuster. Simply loosen the 14mm nut on the center of the pulley, then loosen the 14mm adjuster bolt sticking out the bottom to slacken the belt enough to slip it off.

Use the same adjusters to tension the belts once installed, and tighten down all fixing nuts/fixing bolts.

Be advised: If you broke your PS belt, you should verify your pump and tensioner pulley are in good shape and spin freely, and were not the cause of belt failure before putting on a new belt!

On the Ignition Cylinder lock ( the Key Thingy ) the wire is probably broke going to the puter.. Meaning ya need a new cylinder lock... and getting the Blank key programmed. about a 200 dollar fix..

You will Probably need a New Belt Tensioner. Draw a Diagram of the Belt Routing Before Removal of the Belt.You will need to Locate the Belt Tensioner. It has a Large Pulley on a Bracket that Has a Bolt in the Middle and a Smaller Pulley that Goes Under the Belt and Holds Tension on it. You will need to get a Wratchet, Socket, and Cheater Bar. Turn the Bolt On the Top Large Pulley with the Wratchet and Cheater Bar. This will Lower the Smaller Pulley So that you will be Able to Remove the Belt. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

that is your belt tensioner!! You pull that back when you are gettin ready to finnish putting your belt on the last pulley!! Follow diagram under hood for your specs on motor!!
