Question about 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

2 Answers

I have a 2001 blazer with about 81,000 miles on it. I am being told that I need to replace the front wheel bushings and that this needs to be done prior to my 300+ mile trip to Minneapolis. I am being quoted $1,000 total for both front bushings. Is this reasonable and likely to be a normal wear & tear issue?

All 1998 and newer 4x4 blazers and s10s have front wheel bearing problems. If they are bad and you do not replace they can com apart then the only thing holding the wheel on is the axle shaft.

Chevy blazers are ******* bushings. You can get bushings at any autoparts store. The key to keepinng them in good shape is lubrication.

1991 S10 blazer 4x4 4.3 popping coming from the front

the popping sound is the stabilizer links or the lower control arm bushings you can replace all bushings and both link kits for around 50.00 and the light is prob from the sensor on the transfer case or the front end i would remove and clean with dawn dishwashing liquid and put them back.

2005 camry front control arm bushings

I've been working at a Toyota dealership for a long time and I have never seen lower control arm bushings wear out at 50k..or 100k for that matter, unless the car had been in a major accident. If they were bad you would have heard a lot of clunking noises driving over bumps and turning.
I think you should find another dealer and get a second opinion.

Thumping Sound not from Engine.

There is no way to tell other than having it lifted off the ground and have a mechanic or mechanic friend look at it.
The bushing wear can usually be seen when the car is up off the ground. but no promise that the bushings would be the problem for sure.
