Question about 1990 Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

Bonneville 1990 won´t start under -5 degr Cels.

Engine 3.8 V6 .Under -5 degrees Celsius it will not start. Then after a lot of tryings it starts like if nothing has happened. Then it starts all day but next morning same story. No difference if I use the electric engegine heater or not. I also have a 1988 model and that starts almost before you turn the key! Never ever failed. Not even in minus 30 degr. Celsius.

This has been done.
Computer changed-no diference, the 3 coil spark-ignation modul changed-no diff.
Fuelpump new-pressure OK
The pressure box/regulator changed & OK Canister OK. All rubber vacum hose OK no leaks.
The IAC Ok and adjusted and the EGR valve changed and works correct. New sparkplugs and new sparkwires
tempsensors new- gives right values
Throttle pos is changed and gives right Volt
MAF changed and cleaned and gives right value. Both crank and camshaft sensors changed and gives right values and the cable-connectors Ok and dry.
The oxygen sensor Ok an has a separate ground wire.
There are no intermittent faults. I also checked for broken wire from the temp sensors to the EMC-OK.
The indicator magnet fitting on the camshaft wheel is changed togehter with a new sensor on the cover.
The computer memory indicates no fault. The memory OK, (tested by simulating a fault and then it will register it)
There is absolute nothing more to exchange or adjust.
So WHY this behavior?
Whats wrong?
And yet I´m an experienced mechanical and cant fix my own car this time, well nobody else could fix eather.

Please try to figure out whats wrong before I got mad, I´m already creasy and has given up.Problem is we use car every morning to get to our jobs.

thank You in advance
Mr Kalman.

What is the firing sequence on 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1 multi-port motor

The firing order on all 60 degree V6 engines is 1-2-3-4-5-6. In 1990 GM stroked the 2.8 L engine from to 3.1 L. It's based on the 2.8 L V-6 engine found in 80's cars like the Camaro and Beretta.

Timing mark crankshaft

15 degrees btcd is too far advanced for a normal engine . If you have the mark at 15 aftdc then it will run with no power and will overheat and burn valves
on the timing plate there will numbers on either side of a large line . That is top dead centre . What you are after is 10 degrees before the mark on the balance reaches that big line .. IT will be graduated in 5 degrees bits.

Need firing order for 1990 pontiac bonneville 6 cylinder

mcdevito75 hre, The firing order should be stamped on the intake manifold some where or on a sticker just under the hood or right by the radiator, if not you could try 1-5 3-6 2-4 your local library or auto parts store may have a manual with the firing order.
