I have the same problem I'm not convinced that the transmission is bad since you can reset this by disconnecting the battery. This leads me to believe that it is some kind of electronic control module that has gone bad.

I think you mean they told you that you need to replace the torque converter , which transfers the torque from the engine to the trans
it could be the torque converter but also could be the bands wearing down in the trans

1500 automatic bought from guy says trans was rebuilt shifts ok but when you tromp it sometimes its kicks down goes like hell then tranny slips I backoff and it is fine

I would recommend that you drop the pan and change the fluid and filter, and in place of a quart of transmission fluid, I would run some Lucas transmission oil/fluid that is specifically designed to free up a sticky valve body, and eliminate slipping.

1999 dodge ram 1500 5.2 liter, auto, 2 wheel Trans ran perfectly ...then stopped shifting from second to third. wouldn't change gears, even manually. i checked all connections into trans, checked trans...

1999 dodge 1500 5.2 will not shift to second once the engine reaches normal temperture or I shift from drive to nutural and back to drive then it will work fine untill the next time I stop. filter, fluid, shift slenoid, governor sensor have been replaced.

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 sport 4x4 and the transmission slips between first and second gear, I have replaced the filter and fluid and am still experiencing the slip, what could be the cause?

Most important is making sure the trans is full, especially after doing a
trans service, since the torque convertor needs to be under a load when filling it, to completely be full. If you had the vehicle running and shifted
it through the gears while filling it up with tranny fluid, your good, but if
not, check it again.

1998 Dodge RAM 1500 won't upshift, slips out of gear

have you dropped the pan to see whats the bands are set at, any debris in pan bottom, whats your governor pressure, if bands are ok, but gov pressures are not relative to speed 1 psi per mph up to 95-127psi, port is on pass side of case rear top right, scan tool would be very helpful, your must have mil light on for this problem, gov dtc's, replace gov transducer as gov solniod as a pair, no exceptions, also are there any 02 sensor dtc's, shorted to voltage, this wil make pcm do stupid things to trans shift, affecting gov signals. GOOD LUCK RDJRP

I have a 2004 dodge ram 3500 4x4 diesel with an automatic. When starting out in first gear it revs to 2100rpm before shifting into second and when it shifts it seems to bee slipping or free wheeling until...

I would take it to the transmission shop & have it tested. My neighbor had the same problem with his 03 last month and we had to end up rebuidling it. Trans shop here retail price is about 2800, parts for good rebuild cost 5-600 depending which torque converter you get, & if you have yours rebuilt, get the good one. Rick
