1999 Jeep cherokee sport power door lock problem

I recently bought a 1999 jeep cherokee sport with an odd problem. The front driver's side and passenger door locks are cannot be locked with either the remote or the key, but the buttons on the doors are stuck in the LOCKED position. I removed the door panel on the driver's side but could not find anything jammed. I assume the motors are good because I can here them struggling to work when I hit the remote button. Any suggestions?

If you would remove the door panel again, with the window rolled up, inspect the piece of linkage that is attached to the lock cylinder. It is held to the lock cylinder by a clip, then follow it down to where that same piece of linkage attaches to the door lock assembly. It is also held in place there by a clip, or at least it should be.

Insert a key in the outside of the lock cylinder and attempt to move the linkage. If there is a restriction, follow the linkage to find out why. It may be that the linkage has dropped off, or it may be the lock mechanism has jammed.

The reason it works from the inside is because a different piece of linkage operates the lock mechanism.

If you would like to contact me again about this or other problems, feel free to do so.

You may need to then replace the soleniods that unlock and lock the doors , it is common for them to get weak and not work properly anymore

Lock and unlock both run off the same power supply...I'd be looking for a bad switch or a broken wire in the door harness where the wires go through the rubber boot between the door and pillar.

1999 Jeep Cherokee (not Grand) driver door power control

there is a rubber boot between door and body, peel it back from each end and will expose wiring..try pulling on each wire and you will more than likely find 1 or more broken wires..happens because driver's door is used the most..have seen this on these vehicles..wiring can be repaired

Power window/power lock problem

its very possible that the main driver switch has corroded and it not making good contact. I had a 1999 jeep sport cherokee and if I wiggled the switch in the drivers door at night ( as to see the switch illuminate ) it would flicker there for show it wasn't getting power all the time. If I held the window switch or pressed on it a certain way the door switch that would not work would then work. I hope this helped you? Those door panel switch get corroded and do not make good contact, there for lose of power..

Check the wiring between the drivers door and the A pillar(the body of the car). Sometimes the harness breaks from opening and closing the door.
