Question about 1999 Plymouth Neon
I bought a 1999 plymouth neon less than a month ago. When I bought it I was told that the battery was not working, so I bought a new battery installed it and changed the positive cable of the battery (I asked for it at autozone they gave me the one that the computer said it was for my car). Then it was driving exelent. A week later the engine light came on and I took it in for a diagnostic I was told it was the catalic converter and I had to change it so I serched around and found a mechanic that specialized in this section took my car in and changed the catalic converter. It ran great. Then one night coming home from work my car made a clicking noise and the radio and the lights turned off. So I pulled over and tried turning on the lights again but they did not so I drove home with out lights or radio, about a block away from the my house the car started making a noise like it was strugling to drive and when I parked my car it shut down compleately. The next day I turned it on and it was fine but five minutes later it turned off again. I called a mechanic and was told it might be the alternator, so the alternator was removed and yes it was not holding a charge, I also took in the battery for a check to make sure it was working and it was. So I bought a new alternator and fuses I changed all the fuses, put in a bran new alternator and re-installed the fully charged battery but now my car turns on for less than five minutes and turns back off again to the point of draining the whole battery. I took the alternator back in for a diagnostics and its working. Any sugestions or solutions I can try to see why my car is not turning on or why it wont hold a charge.
We had the same problem and got 2 different alternators ! Gee, found out it was not the alternator AT ALL, but the wire from the alternator TO THE BATTERY was shorting out. Check that on yours, and good luck!
