Question about 1993 Lincoln Continental

1 Answer

Ignition switch won't turn off motor

Report abuse posted by coastaleddy4 on Nov 23, 2008
I own a 1993 Lincoln Continental Signature series. The ignition switch will start the car but will not turn it off. There is no resistance when turning the key to the off position and the steering wheel won't lock. To stop the engine I need to pop the hood and pull the ignition fuse then remove the ground so the battery won't go dead.

Your help will be greatly appreciated!!
Thank You,

MY PLYMOUTH GRAND VOYAGER 'S HEADLIGHT'S AND DASH LIGHTS WORK, BUT THE ENGINE WON'T TURN OVER. THERE IS NO SPARK COMING FROM THE ELECTRICAL WIRES.

When you say no spark, are you talking about the spark plugs, or just the general wiring?

If the engine won't turn over, then it isn't moving, and if it isn't moving then you need to check the following in this order:

1) Does the battery have power i.e. around 12.4 volts or over? No? Charge, test or replace battery.

2) Do the car's head lights dim considerably if turned on when attempting to crank? Yes? Possible lack of battery charge or faulty battery.

3) Assuming the battery is fine, can you turn the dash warning lights on and off with the key? No? Faulty ignition switch.

4) Is there a click sound when you turn the key, but no starter motor spin? Check starter motor connections or replace starter motor.

If none of the above prove to be of help, then please report.

I have a 1999 4runner LTD, can anyone provide me with the instructions to program my keyless entry remote? Thanks __________________ RAV Report this post to a moderator | IP: Logged 12-31-2004 02:11 AM NoliWan Member Registered: Dec 2004 Location: San Jose, CA Posts: 34 Hey RAV, I got your PM-- Here are the instructions for programming the 99-02 4Runner Keyless Entry factory remotes: 1. Start with the following conditions: you are in the vehicle a. Key is out of the ignition b. Drive door is open ( all other doors are closed) c. Driver door is unlocked (other door locks don't matter) 2. Insert the key into the ignition (don't turn it) and pull it out. 3. Perform these steps within 40 seconds: a. Cycle the power locks 5 times. Use an even pace and try to go relatively fast. b. Close, then open the drivers door. 4. Perform these steps within 40 seconds: a. Cycle the power locks 5 times (same as before). b. Turn the ignition to ON then back to OFF. c. Turn the ignition to ON then back to OFF. d. Remove the key from the ignition. 5. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (automatically) indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to step 1 if the locks do not cycle at this point. 6. Perform these steps within 40 seconds: a. Press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for 1 second. b. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons, press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle ( LOCK then UNLOCK) once-- indicating successful programming. If the door locks don't cycle, or cycle twice. Repeat steps 6a and 6b--this remote has not been accepted. c. Repeat steps 6a and 6b for EACH transmitter that will operate the vehicle. Including any old transmitters. 7. Close the driver door. Hope this helps you, it did me greatly-- Good luck, NoliWan __________________ 2000 SR5 4Runner 4WD ____________________ TRD 2nd Gen. Supercharger / TRD Headers / TRD Cat Back Exhaust / TRD Trans. Last week I noticed the *chirp* sound wasnt working any more. Over the weekend... the Keyless Remote stopped working totally. So I radio shacked a new battery in the remote... but it still does not work. I tried these reprogramming instructions, but they do not work either. "Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (automatically)" This doesnt happen. So I am wondering if I am doing the cycle correctly ... Any Advice would be appreciated. If you were doing this and the vehicle wasnt doing the automatic cycle thing, then there must be a problem with the computer and not the remote. quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I can't do the steps with out setting off the car alarm, specifically the close and open the drivers door step. Does your alarm always activate when the unlocked doors are closed? __________________ '00 SR5 4x4 ARB Tundra/OME 32" Muddies n'stuff Report this post to a moderator | IP: Logged 12-15-2006 05:05 PM Advertisement Sponsored Links Ads by Google Supporting this site Also, check out these sponsored links: More Links: All times are GMT.
