i finally solved the parking brake problem. but now i have two other problems. one is that my trunk won't open. when i push the electric button on the inside, it just goes up and down like something won't let it go. i only have one key and doesn't do anything for the trunk. it won't even turn it. the other thing is that i can't the automatic transmission to switch gears on its own. i have to switch gears myself. can anyone give me some advice. also, thanks might thor for all your help.

Between the seats, correct? It's that racheting mechanism. Pull the carpet back and remove the handle assembly.

1995 Ford Escort Wagon Automatic, Won't shift

Hi there,

Most modern automatic cars require the driver to depress the brake pedal first, to allow releasing the gear out of Park.

Some automatic transmissions also provide an 'overide' switch near the gear lever, to allow manual release of the gear lever.

If neither of the above resolve this, then you will need to check the operation of your brake switch, mounted on the brake pedal.

are the dash lights still working,if so,first check the bulbs, you can get a test light at autozone for a couple bucks, with the bulb out, test light grounded, have someone step on the brake pedal, touch the test lite probe to one of the contacts inside bulb socket,if it dont work your brake lite switch is out,its located under the dash, maybe on brake pedal lever

1998 BMW 740i - I had a brake light out, replaced it, it won't

check where the wires go from the inside of the body to the out around the gromet. I did run into one that the wires rubbed. Also if the light are on the trunk lid check where they go through the trunk latch.
