Of course you have a faulty sensor somewhere. i would suspect a O2 sensor. good luck. the manual(haynes) doesnt go into detail what to check for that code.

I'm no mechanic but i was raised by one and know the basics..... check or even replace your Manifold Absolut Pressure sensor (MAP) sensor

in a sense a MAP sensor is the ECM for your fuel pressure regulator

Code P0172

That indicate that the system is running too rich for some reason that has to be determined. Pull the vacuum line off the pressure regulator to see if there is any fuel in the line to indicate a bad regulator.

P0172 sensor system to rich

Correct, code 172 is fuel system too rich bank one.
This means the computer is trying to cut back on the fuel going thru the injectors and according to the O2 sensor it is still rich.
Could be a faulty sensor, or a leaking injector, or fuel pressure regulator.
