Inconsistent heat. I also have an 03 Intrepid. Mine will heat up when idling, but when I start driving it stops blowing out hot air, although it is somewhat warm. The temperature gauge rises when I come to a stop then goes to cold when I drive again. Any suggestions as to what may be causing this. Thanks

Yeah, I'm from Minnesota, so know what you mean. You need to check the flow of air. A couple things. Is it any better if you have the re-circulator on? Also, does the temperature gauge vary any between idle and driving?

Try idle in neutral with the engine running at driving RPM - does that make a change?

I suspect a flow restriction at low RPM.

sounds like a beld air door problem try banging on the bottom of the passenger side dash to see if the heat comes back are you sure the coolant is full

This sounds like a bad blend door vacuum actuator to me.
If the heater core is hot at idle, but the inside cabin doesn't get hot air, then the blend door is something to look into.

your heater isn't shot, but it might be clogged, in car the heater core is what proved heat to you in the car. The core is connected to the cooling system of the engin. over time it becomes clogged by the stuff that is in you coolant. a way to fix this yourself is to take off the two hose that go to it and using a air compressor and some water to blow it out, make sure the air is at a low psi. and then make sure to run water both ways through it. the heater core is just a small radiator. so to much force could break it, start going in the return hose to help get the debre out. Just be careful!

My first challenge since I became member of this site! What does your temperature gauge tell you when this is happening? For the seat, take it off disconnect the harnesses and check the cables underneath, you have a short-circuit.
