I have changed the spark plugs (not easy) two coil packs, both camshaft sensors and i still get a lot of idle knock. the truck runs good above 25 mph, but it will knock and die at idle speed. please help me with this issue. i had the CEL comes on and i had code read and it says timing is advanced one one code but the other code says that it is ********. any help would be apprreciated. thanks
I think you must visit to the link given once and i know you will get the solution and how to implement the task this one is the cheapest solution i am giving you the link http://toolsnyou.com/

You need to clear the codes from the ECM, and re-run diagnostic code. If you still have codes
Check your grounds. If you still have power issues, re-check your wiring or firing order. If you have spark only on 2-4-6, where is your 1 - 3 - 5. If I remember correctly those vehicles have double ignition modules. One for the right bank and one for the left bank. But not sure. When was the last time you change your spark plug wires? Your PCV? Fuel Filter? Air Filter?. As for your cam shaft sensor, run a coninuity test on the harness and ensure is working correcty. Why did you change the ECM, those things hardly go bad, unless you disconnected it while you had power going to it. Probably nothing wrong with the old one.
Ensure you don't have vacuum leaks (PCV Valve, EGR Valve) Check your fuel pressure if you can. Suggest you change fuel filter. Could be partially clogged and not allowing the proper atomization of fuel. (Also did you gap your plugs correctly or just threw them on as is?)

you probably have a vacuum leak and by the sound of it, it idles rough with the brake pedal depressed its your brake booster

OK, and now it looks like coachjoehutc is thinking the same as me. When I look up your car, it takes me to the Mazda Millenia engine--does that sound right? It only shows 2 cam sprockets, but maybe there's a gear in the head to turn the other cam? Anyway, I'm pasting a picture of the marks. There's a little tang coming off the head that marks the timing. Now unfortunately it appears the timing covers are the one-piece type that stretch all the way down (I was hoping there would be a section on the top you could remove to see the gears). I hate for you to have to take the whole front off and find out I'm wrong, so maybe you can just remove the upper cover screws and, if the cover is plastic, it may let you bend it out far enough to see those marks on the gears (????). If so, then rotate the engine to TDC for #1 (there is an ignition timing tab to use for that around the one o'clock position). Look for the marks on the gears--if I'm right, they will only be off the tangs by a tooth (any more and the engine wouldn't run). If you don't see the dots on the gears, you're on the exhaust stroke and need to turn the engine another 360. Is this all making sense? Let me know if you have questions.
If you want to see the instructions to take off the whole covers, I can send them, or maybe you can access them at http://www.autozone.com/autozone/repairinfo/repairguide/repairGuideContent.jsp?pageId=0900c152802610a5

remove neg. cable from battery so the ECM will reset this may work. make sure the IAC is air tight. if this doen't fix your problem have someone check the IAC valve if it's bad the part runs $300.00 pluse

If thats the 5.4 or 4.6,,you have a variable cams..Theres a regulator that causes the camshaft to turn slightly with oil pressure ,,Its called a VCT solenoid..Or the camshaft phasers may be bad,,Its mounted on the end of the camshafts,,you have to pull the valve covers to see..When you chabge the cam sensors,,did it say which side..You can replace the VCT solenoid but you may want someone to look at the phrasers..Personally we had to change alot of camshafts but never had any problems with timing yet..
