A/C and Heater Only works on the highest speed

2003 Chevrolet Tahoe 2/w Drive. Both a/c and heater works good, the only thing is that it must stay on high speed # 5. If I drop the the fan speed to any thing lower, the system shuts off.  Its started by loosing fan speed # 1 then #2 and so on the only one that has continued to work is #5. Please help, is it the in dash heater a/c switch that needs replacement or a simple fuse that has expired.

The blower motor resister is bad...It is very common in chevy trucks. The resister is located behind the glove box and is held in place by two screws, it will also have a wire harness attached to it. If you want to see a picture of it go to and search for the blower motor resister.

Not the fuse, if that was blown, the system would not work at all. Probably your switch assembly has gone bad.

The 2 low speeds are not working on my pickup i was told it could be a low voltage relay and needing to know where it is located at!! it goes on a 2003 silverado extended cab 1500 5.3litter 4x4

Are you talking about your Heater/AC fan??

If so there is a resistor pack under the dash on the passenger side (mounted to the heater housing). I would check it first.

My 2003 5.3l did the same thing; (not saying that it couldn't be something else). We froze that Summer because the AC only would blow on high.

My silverado had about 80,000 miles when I replaced it, now I have 96,000 and it still works fine.

There is an updated design available that should get your speeds back to normal, and last longer than the original part.

Good luck!

Good Luck!!

I have a 2003 Chevy Tahoe . The heater and a/c fan only works on the highest speed #5. How do you repair this problem?

Check the blower motor resistor. It is on the passengers side by the blower motor under the dash. The resistor is connected to the blower motor and controls the blower speeds. They are known for going bad. Also check the connectors because they get hot and will melt.If they are melted then you will have to replace the connectors. You can get these from the dealership.Replace the blower motor resistor too.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Heater blower only works on the 2 highest speeds ? Ranger is 2003 4 dr. with factory air

it could be the blower motor resistor, this is what gives the motor different speeds, they are very common to burn out 1 or 2 speeds. They are not very expensive, I would look into that first

2004 Chevy Tahoe. Heater working only at higher speeds.

you have air trapped in the cooling system. A good indication is that one or both of your heater hoses going into the heater core are cold when they should be hot.
Park facing uphill, raise front of vehicle so radiator cap is higher than top of engine. (You want bubble to get to radiator and out the cap.)
Leave cap on but loose, so bubble can purge.
Turn heater on.
Fill radiator and reservoir with 50/50 mix of antifreeze.
Start engine and run at about 1500 roms until the engine warms up and thermostat opens.
You will know themostat opens when top radiator hose is hot indicating coolant is flowing.
Shut off engine.
Fill radiator and reservoir. Install cap.

please Rate as fixya if this works. good luck

My seat heaters come on and then shutoff after 4minutes. What is problem? 2003 chevey tahoe

the seat heating elements may be partially shorted or drawing excess current, they are controlled by a timed relay in the seat heater control switch, the switch may also cause this, but most common issue is the heater element in the seat cushion in my experience..

Heater issue - only works when on highest setting

this is caused by the blower motor speed control resistor being defective, this part is located near the blower motor.
