Question about 1998 Saab 900

Motor and trans mount replacements

I have the same problem with the enging rocking when I start the car with the 98' 900 SE turbo 2.0L with automatic, and I was wondering if I need to remove the ac unit to get to the motor mount, or if i can just remove the two nuts from the bracket that is attached to the mount, without damaging the ac unit.

also, I have to replace the trans mount and am wondering if the trans mount for the 97 900 SE 2.3L non-turbo will fit for the 98 that I have. Anyone know?

The part number for the trans mount is the same for the 2, 2.3 and 2.5 liter engines. It is 4356184. It is $51.00 for the aftermarket Febi/Bilstein and $125.52 for the OEM Saab part. The 2.3 liter mount you want to use will work, but only if it came off an auto trans. car. Additional infor available on SaabSite:

How do I replace the motor mounts on my 2001 Toyota Camry Solora xle v6

Ok, first off apply E brake. Second, locate motor mounts usually on side bottom, connect to frame. Third jack up car place jack stands. Fourth, disconnect all wiring, maf, pretty much anything and everything that will get in way. Fifth, grab cherry picker, connect engine to cherry picker. Sixth, disconnect engine from trans, or leave connected but might be more difficult for some. Seventh, unbolt engine from mounts(usually 3or so bolts on each mount), do not rock engine, raise cherry picker(or crane some call it different)when tension on chain slowly rock engine. Should pop out unless you missed a bolt.

How to check bad trans mount...

To check it you need to use a pry bar and rock the motor around, as well as use a jack to raise the engine/trans assembly and see if the mount has too much play.

Goto any major parts store and buy the manual for the car its $15, or they usually will let ya look at it to see what ya need, but buying an older car i recomend buying the book, plus it will tell you exactly how to change the mounts, as well as many other repairs

1 motor mount right front side, then there's a trans mount left front & torque strut mount. I checked out a nice Poly set (eng & trans) on eBay at about 28.00 includes shipping. Item #170433115996

The shaft for the cv joint of my mr2 turbo keeps pullin away from the gear box

it's possible that your CV joint is so worn that there is enough play for it to pull out. However, it is also posible that you have a problem with your A-arms, or even that your motor mounts are so worn that they shift your engine/trans-axle enough to one side or the other under high torque. I would start by lifting the back of the car, taking off the tire, and seeing if you can get your A-arms to move (using a crowbar). If they sit firm, attempt to pull the shaft out of your trans. If you can pull it out (using any method possible) it needs to be replaced. If you have not found the problem yet, check your motor mounts and attempt to move your engine from side to side with a crowbar (careful where you place it, don't want to break anything). If you motor moves easily, replace the motor mounts.
