Two bolts on the brake calliper coming from the inside out and they take an allen wrench to take them off. But to save time if you take a large screw driver and spread your break pads apart as wide as they will go you won't need a c clamp to spread them.

The first thing to check is that you have working brake lights. If they are not working then the solenoid that pulls the park pin back to unlock the shifter is not going to get power from the brake light circuit.

What is causing both front brakes to lock up

check master cylinder not releasing the brakes. the brake flex hose for each wheel may have collapsed internally. the way to find out is when the brakes don`t release loosen the bleeder screw on the brake caliper if brake fluid squirts out or runs out and the brakes release then the flex hose has collapsed. if the brakes don`t release and no fluid squirts out then the calipers are seized and need replacing. the shuddering is an indication the brake rotors are probably warped and need replacing.

Don't have brake lights

Try replacing you brake light switch located on the driver side by the brake pedal.

Replacing what?

You have brake pads,only if worn down to nothing
You have rotors that can be machined once or twice
You have rotors that are worn & badly rusted & need to be replaced
You could have rusted & frozen calipers from not changing the fluid
every 2 years
You could have failing rubber flex hoses about due to be replaced
You have both the front & back brakes & don't always do on same schedule

I would expect you have a repair shop or several different places
you have gone to over the years,so I would say ask them.
Figure the prices your asking are about ,are what you have always paid

One thing you never ask a pro in the auto repair business is to
ball park or guess at price,they hate that,not me, the shops you go to.

When the brake is applied the engine quits on a 1999 toyota sienna

Does this vehicle have power brakes? If so, then check the vacuum booster for the brakes.

It sounds like when you hit the brakes, the vacuum booster is leaking, causing the engine to stall.

Do this by unhooking it, and plugging it off where it goes to the motor, so the motor port is sealed. Don't worry about where the line plugs into the booster for now. Then, try hitting the brakes with the motor running. The brakes will be much harder to push now, as you have disconnected its booster. If it no longer stalls, then you will know that your brake booster is bad, and needs replacing.

Unless you are machanically inlined, have a good garage replace the booster. Midas will do, since they are a brake place. Used to be they tested, or checked, your car for free. Maybe they still do, but don't let them sell you anything you really don't need.

Hello, My son has a 97 saturn sl 4dr that has rear disc brakes that has given up the ghost. He has purchased an 01 sl 4dr that has rear drum brakes. can we swap the axles on these cars. I hate drum...

Don't know the answer but consider a few things

You now have newer model saturn
That means totally different electronics,
throughout the car

Braking Systems or any vehicle systems
are designed by engineers to do specific
things a certain way ,and millions of dollars
are spent getting the final product to the dealer

Your not doing a restoration or modification,
as you would on, say a 55 chevy here

So my answer is, you don't have one thing I can
think of in the braking system that would be compatible
from disc to drum, when you consider the ABS System
Electronics and now way you have the same master cylinder
or wheel cylinder diameters,volume,metering valves etc.

Someone may give you a very technical answer, that it has &
can be done by someone on this site.

I personally could engineer it,but wouldn't, it is a daily
driver and 10 years old. You don't spent any time or money
on something like that.
They don't even make Saturns anymore

That indicates that your Parking Brake is in need
of some type of service.

I'm going to guess you don't disassemble,clean,
and lube any of your brakes once a year,so the
parking brake it's self, may not be the main issue,
that caused your dash light to come on.

I would service your rear brakes,then diagnose
any parking brake issues later, if they still remain

When i say service,I am not referring to replacing
or even machining parts unless necessary.

Brake rust badly in a few months and need constant
rust removal,lube and other attention yearly ,that
unfortunately even the professionals don't do

ABS and hand brake sign on the screen and there's a grrr sound coming from the brake pedal and makes the car to brake before time - 2005 Polo Classic 1.9 TDI -Sedan

now check the master cylinder.
also have the rear drum brakes looked at .
the rear pads are or could be worn to where the metal from the pad is scratching a unwanted groove in the inside of the drum that the pads need to stop the car.
and also check the front pads.have it done by a certified tech.its worth your life to pay for good professional work.

Solving tail light problem

tail lights not working did the right thing in checking the obvious so what you need to do is find your brake light switch which is on the brake pedal [top] take the the connector off get a spilt pin or something that will by-pass the switch connect together if these brake lights only work with ignition on don,t forget to switch it on your brake lights should come on if so replace the switch
