Crancshaft pullt jamming up

Hi ive justreplaced the fuel pump and cambelt on my isuzu trooper duty 3 litre turbo diesel 1998 model and when i try to turn the cranshaft pully with my ratchet it will ony move two turns then jamms up can anybody tell me what the problem might be

You must have #1 on TDC and the camshafts on the timing mark to fit a new belt , I rekon yer valves are fouling the piston .
Ignore the mark on the pump pulley .

    Yep , you got the cam to crank marks wrong.

    ignore the fuel pump marks and get # 1 piston on TDC and get the cam pulley mark in line with the mark on the back plate , maybe you have to take the belt off to do this ,

    The fuel pump works in any position as it pumps oil for the injectors as well as fuel.

    You need to take off the belt and get #1 on TDC then the camshaft on its mark and put the belt on again.

    The TDC mark is on the back edge of the crankshaft belt pulley tight to the plastic cover
    The fuel pump pulley is not timed to the cam one since it only makes pressure .

this is a USA forum what country are you in?
Fuel systems vary by engine, and country, so......?????
what needs fix'n?

the word fix has many meanings
  • how to rebuild the pump?
  • time it?
  • how to remove it put back?
  • how to bleed it.

Diagnosing direct injection?



The 4JX1 is a 3.0 L direct injection diesel engine, turbo, some intercooled, which replaced the 4JG2 in the Isuzu Bighorn/Trooper/Holden Jackaroo.
It uses unit injectors and 4 valves per cylinder.

European and Asian buyers could opt for the diesel.

see we dont have this.
troopers are sold in Asia too, but not here with diesel.

Cambelt timing marks 4jx1


sounds like the injector sleeve O rings have failed this was common.
if you put a clear plastic piece of hose on supply line for diesel fuel filter to head fitting at front and fuel is not black but normal diesel colour thats good.
then put clear hose on return line fitting at rear of cylinder head and fuel is now darker, engine oil is by passing injector sleeve top O rings and entering into fuel gallery in head.
rocker cover, injector rail, injectors need removing and injector sleeves need replacing as well as O rings and seats.
a special tool is needed to remove the injector sleeves out of the head. you will also need to drain the cooling system before removing the injector sleeves, so coolant is also needed.
dealers have special tool for injector sleeves

Can i replace a 3.0litres diesel turbo engine from a 2002 isuzu trooper with a 3.1litres diesel turbo engine.And if possible how can this be done?


Yes you can . Requires some skills but the only bits that dont work after are the speedo and the rev counter .

These can be made to work but its a bit tricky ..

Bore 95.4mm
Stroke 107
Displacement 3.059 litre
Compression ratio 20:1
Idling speed NA 750, T 720 rpm
Firing order 1-3-4-2
Injection timing NA: 1 deg after top dead centre(ATDC), at top dead centre(TDC) for turbo
Valve clearance (cold): 0.4mm for intake and exhaust.

How much oil does the 1998 3 litre turbo diezel Isuzu Wizard take


Its about 6 litres for the oil and filter , if you got 2 dipsticks its an auto ?
The engine is the yellow one with the handle .

Fuel consumption 1998 carb. 2.6 4x4 isuzu


I would not really recommend buying a petrol engined Isuzu if you are thinking about fuel consumption.I think you will be lucky to get 8km/l and thats being generous.Rather go for a turbo diesel with around the same capacity and you should get between 12-14km/L.

Do i need a turbo timer for an intercooled diesel engin..isuzu...


Yes it pays to have a Turbo timer or let it run for 3 minutes after an outing.
An Intercooler is usually fitted to turbo charged engines.It cools the air entering the engine making it denser,Thats why cars go really well on frosty mornings after they reach running temp.
