Question about 1992 Lexus Ls 400

1 Answer

Antifreeze just purchased a '92 lexus with 120,000 miles. Had it checked out by a mechanic and everthing was good. However, when he checked the antifreeze there was a layer of pink stuff (looked like pepto bismol) which he could not identify--below that layer there was antifreeze. I am wondering what it is and should it be there? I do not have the owners manual so could not look it up. Thank you!

The only thing i could think of is when you mix green antifreeze with the orange it is not good for the engine, the two will not mix and it will gum up your engine. I think you need to flush out your cooling system. I hope that helps you.

? to Replace Timing belt on 2000 Lexus Rx300 with 57,000 miles.

If it is running perfectly I wouldn't think that you would need to replace the timing belt. You shouldn't need to replace that until 100,000-120,000 miles. I would definitely hold off until now unless you have start having some timing problems. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

Transmission!

Transmission problems in the RX300 are common for those who never flush the transmission fluid. I would strongly urge you to quit driving your RX300 and get it to a dealership where they can flush the transmission fluid. There is no transmission fluid filter (per say) but there is a "screen" inside the transmission that needs to be flushed out (this serves as the filter). Pull out your dipstick for the transmission and smell the transmission fluid - does it smell burned? I hope not, but regardless, take it to a dealership and get the tranny flushed and see if that makes a difference. Also, continue to flush the transmission every 60,000 miles at most! Lexus says that you do not need to flush the transmission, but I think you do. I have a 2001 Lexus RX300 and I have had no problems with the tranny and I've flushed it at 60,000 miles and then again at 115,000 miles. I now have just a little over 120,000 on it. It's a good running vehicle but you need to care for it!

Mechanic says I need a new catilytic converter

Most are around $500 from GM. If you are under 80,000 miles it is covered under emissions warranty. Check with the dealer. On some models there is a special policy covering it to 120,000. Good Luck

Your car has front disc brakes, the disc's are running out of true, as u apply the brake this causes the steering wheel to shake, the higher the speed the more u feel this, the solution is to have the front brake disc's machined true again on a brake lathe or if they are to thin replace them.
