Question about 2000 Saturn Ls 4dr Sedan

1 Answer

Whining sound from front passenger side.

2001 Saturn LS 4dr sedan. Whining sound starts at about 15 mph, and gets louder. When I turn steering wheel to left or jiggle it to the left the noise goes away. Jacked car up and pulled on both tires, no play in either.
Any thoughts???

I'm having the same problem with my Hyundai Elantra 2008. I guess I'll look at the brake pads then...

Check the condition of front disc brake pads, if they are in need of replacement a preset little metal arm starts rubbing the discs and will make a whining noise. It doesn't do any damage but it's irritating to listen to.

Whining noise progressively gets louder with speed

One wheel turning faster than the other is normal if both wheels are off the ground. If one wheel is dragging when the other wheel is on the ground, it could be brakes or a wheel hub bearing.
Usually if the noise happens on right turns, the left hub bearing is failing, and vice versa.

A whining sound up near passenger side front of car, bad snow storm, car got stuck...started this whining just a couple of days later. worried it could be transmission...any ideas?

a whining under the hood is usually a belt, or pump. most of the time it is the power steering pump. make sure that the power steering reservoir is full and the belts are not damaged or dry rotting.

The right front tire make a whining sound and when the steering wheel is turned to the left it gets louder.

Sounds like you have a bad wheel bearing. Sometimes you can jack up the wheel, in your case the right front) and with one hand spin the wheel while holding onto the front strut spring with the other. If you can feel the noise (sounds wierd but you can feel the noise) than the bearing is bad. It helps if the transmission is in neutral (make sure you secure the vehicle from moving while its in neutral)

Hi,
If the sound is coming from your power steering pump and the fluid level is good, the pump could be going out.
