There is a second bolt that has to come off it is usually 180 degrees across from the 14 mm bolt. Once this is removed take off and disconnect any wire harnesses that are attatched to the starter. When you put the new one on be sure to disconnect the battery neg. pole first so you don'y blow the starter.
Good Luck

I am trying to replace the starter in my 86 nissan stanza but cant see it

NISSAN STANZA WAGON - Manual Transmission

Q. Where is the starter on a 1986 nissan stanza station wagon and how do you get to it ?

Due to limited access to the starter, it is recommended that the transaxle be removed when servicing the starter.

1. Cold vehicle.

Remove 2 mounting bracket bolts, 10 & 12 mm (Figure 1).

Remove top starter motor bolt 14 mm with universal & long extensions.

Raise vehicle on hoist.

Remove front splash pans 10 mm.

Automatic transmission: Drain 2 qts out.

Remove rt-ft wheel 21 mm., & tie rod (Figure 3), axle cap, cotter pin, adj-nut & rubber washer.

Remove ball joint nuts 17 mm., left lower control arm 19mm. & swaybar bracket 14 mm. (Fig 2).

Remove axle nut 36mm (Figure 4), the front tube, catalytic converter heat insulators 10mm, ctr ex-tube 17 mm., and front tube from exhaust system (Figure 5).

Remove long bolt from ft engine mount (next to radiator), 17mm socket (Figure 6, Item A).

Remove tension rod mount 14 mm. Has adj-bracket with rubber insulators (Fig 6, Items B, C).

Remove right side drive shaft bolts that hold shaft to bracket mounted on engine (Fig7) 12mm.

Remove rt-driveshaft.

CAUTION: Transaxle side seals are cut by spline teeth.

Install hoist type transmission jack and wooden block under the transmission/engine. Be certain the transmission is safely balanced on the hoist.

Remove 5 engine crossmember mounts (3 bolts, 2 nuts) 14mm.

Remove nut that attaches crossmember to engine mount.

Loosen stabilizer bar mounts to allow adequate clearance for crossmember to be removed.

Remove following brackets to allow starter assembly to pass through bottom:

tubular support bracket - engine to transaxle

angled support bracket - driveshaft bracket to engine mount

manifold collector stay - (bottom bolts)

Loosen top bolts, remove bracket above driveshaft-holding bracket 14mm.

NOTE: This bracket is slotted to allow it to slide out without completely removing the bolts.

Remove bottom starter motor mounting bolt.

Separate starter assembly from bellhousing, DC all cables/connectors, remove starter motor.

When installing starter, connect cable, install/torque starter bolts.

How to replace a starter in a 1996 acura tl 2.5?

  • Since the starter involved the electrical system, disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid any electrical shorts or other issues. The starter is located on the driver's side just below the intake manifold and near the firewall. Remove the transmission dip stick, which partially obstructs the starter.Loosen the top bolt on the starter with a 14-mm wrench and loosen the bottom bolt with a 17-mm wrench a couple of turns but do not remove the bolts. After both of the bolts are loose, remove the top bolt and then the bottom bolt and pull the starter out of the transmission bell housing. You will have to angle the starter a little to remove it.Remove the wire that goes to the ignition switch. The wire should simply slide off. Use the 9-mm wrench to disconnect the nut that holds on the solenoid wire.
  • Place wires on the new or remanufactured starter and place it back in the bell housing
  • Replace the top and bottom bolts.Put transmission dipstick back in the gearbox and reconnect the battery.

How do you remove a starter from a 2001 nissan frontier

    Tools needed:
    10mm socket
    14mm socket
    ratcheting wrench
    long and short extension
breaker bar or Big wrench so you can put on ratchet to give you more leverage.

Starter is on the passenger side of truck attached to the transmission.

Start by disconnecting the battery. Something that will greatly help from the top is disconnect the wire from the starter going to the positive battery wire. You will thank god for this later. (it was a pain in the ****)
Remove nut from positive side of solenoid
Remove 10 mm bolt holding stainless steel lines
Remove 14 mm upper and lower bolts (I used ratcheting wrench with extension and 1" wrench to give me leverage)
There is one more 14 mm short bolt that is above tranny pan that you will need a long extension to get to.

Once you remove all bolts starter should almost fall out of place minus wire that you disconnected earlier. The one I had, had gotten caught up with other wires and I finally got aggravated and just broke the wire off to get the starter out. This is not a big deal as the new or re-manufactured starter will have this wire.

Make sure to line up the plate right and thread in the top bolt hand tightened.
Do the same as with lower bolt.
line up bracket and thread in the short bolt tight so you don't have to mess with it again.
tighten stainless steel line back together.
Have someone push the wire up you in the upper part of the engine area and plug wire back in.
tighten all bolts and make sure to attach positive batter cable wire to starter.
Reinstall battery and give the key a turn.

Good Luck and please rate 4 thumbs up for the answer

Change starter on 1987 plymouth sundance. Tools needed

a rachet with extension... i think the bolts will be 13 or 14 mm. unhook the battery first. there are two bolts holding the starter on. remove those two bolts and pull the starter. do NOT remove the wires till you have the replacement starter in hand. transfer the wires one at a time from the old starter to the new one. reinstall the starter with the two bolts and hook up the battery when it is done.... should start with no issues.
