Transmission is Slipping

My transmission seems to be slipping. My car will drive, but very slow hardly moving.

my 1999 chrysler lhs would barely run. The highest speed I get is 30 mph. It shifts gears in between gear 1 & 2. Its automatic. In addition there is this squeaking noise coming from the front passenger tyre. A mechanic told me its the tyre rods that needs to be replaced. I dont know if these two problems are related.

Without knowing the year, engine size, etc., I can only make educated guesses, but here goes: You stated "My car will drive, but very slow hardly moving". My first suspicion is that you don't have a transmission problem, but the car is in what Chrysler calls the 'limp-home mode'. This occurs when the computer 'sees' a problem with an engine function or sensor that is serious, but not so bad that the car won't run at all. Limp-home mode allows your car to only operate in second gear so that you won't damage it further by driving normally, but won't leave you stranded either. Is your 'check engine' or 'service engine' light on? If not, check to see that it actually works by turning the key 'on', but not starting the car. All the dash lights should be lit for about 3-5 seconds. No matter what, you need to check your transmission fluid level (on a Crysler, should be checked with the engine running and in gear, NOT park or nuetral). Safety first, make sure someone is holding the brake on - please don't ever trust a 'parking brake' for this. If the fluid level is OK and there's no 'check engine' light you need
to visit a competent transmission shop. Probabably a worn front pump, torque converter, or a hung spool valve in the valve body, none of which is generally fixable at home. If you do have a 'check engine' light on, see a regular mechanic first as there is a mechanical problem probably not related to the transmission. Good Luck!

Have you checked oil level??? if ok then its a new front clutch ,other causes is flex plate broke ,torque converter broke but these two would make a noise.most likely cause is front clutch

Transmission slipping

Your tyranny is either low on fluid or getting ready to kick the bucket... one of the signs you watch for is the car Jerks hard when changing gears while cold but seems to be OK when warmed up... this can go on for months... one thing to try asap.. get the transmission flushed... and don't be a lead foot... if she is slipping it's not going to help if you give it more gas... but a lot of the time a good flush will help ( filter gets plugged and the transmission fluid isn't doing its job

I have a 1997 mercedes benz s500 gas meter is not working properly slow acceleration seems the transmission may be slipping slow on take off car shaking in park and diving

If the RPM's go high and barely moving. The transmission is slipping. Eventually it will stop moving when the clutches are completely worn out. The more you drive it like this, the more internal damage you can cause. The shaking could be this also. But you could need a tune up, or could have bad engine mounts.

When I speed up to pass on freeway; 2x when I sped up from a red light, my titan revved but barley accelerated; engine not missing;trani not slipping when driving; no noises any suggestions?

Automatic I presume? While you claim the transmission is not slipping, the symptoms seem to point in that direction. The "punch" it, increases the load on the transmission. This behavior also points to drive line (transmission problems. It may be too late, but professional service may save the transmission.

yes this is a auto transmission problem. it is called slipping. you need new transmission bands. it is really hard to give service to automatic transmission since they are consisted of lots of parts and they are the most complex part in a modern car.

but before deciding on a new transmission or a major overhaul (check at fluid color there should not be any debris or particle when you drip it to a tissue and i should not smeel and color should be clear), check electronics and selenoid valves i which control transmision. sometimes selenoids are gone broken and they cant redirect oil oressure to required parts of system. but o not drive like this. if it is just a selenoid problem it can burn transmission bands due to slipping occur inside.

auto transmissions work with almost zero tolerances so be careful.

2002 GRAND AM SE CUTTING OUT GOING DOWN HIWAY AND THE rpm'S GOES UP FELLS LIKE SOMETHING SLIPPING

If the rpm's go up and the car feels like it is slowing a little even though you haven't moved the gas pedal a bit with your foot then you may certainly have a transmission that is slipping. Usually a slipping transmission is most noticable at first when speeding up to merge into traffic or after the transmission is fully warmed up. If you feel it is slipping you should have it checked out as soon as possible to prevent further damage and the risk of being stranded on the road.

Transmission Slipping?

Putting it in four wheel drive does not eliminate the transmission. Honestly, it sounds like the transmission is on it's way out. A 4l60e in one of cars was acting the same way. It required a rebuild.
