Question about 2003 Saturn L-Series
Daughters 2003 Saturn L300 has been having electrical problems. She can be driving along and suddenly the fuel gauge goes to E and the transmission begins to shift rough. If the car is turned off it will not start again. The problem is intermittent and difficult to reproduce when you want to diagnose it. The security system has also prevented the car from starting and I had to turn the ignition key to run for 10 minutes in order to get it to start, Most recently, The car cranked but would not start. I inserted the key and jiggled it and then moved the shift lever to neutral and back to park and the thing started.. I'm thinking ignition switch or PCM??? any thoughts or advise??
Sorry to say but it's probably the BCM (body control module) that's going in her car. The BCM controls everything inside your car, from the gauges, locks, daytime running lamps, ABS... and yes the security system. I have a 2003 L200 which had the same problem and I had to replace the BCM at some cost ($400-$600) depending on where you go. The L-Series Saturns seem to have a problem with their BCMs and it seems that it's pretty prevalent. Unfortunately it will only get worse as time goes on and it's not something that you can do yourself as it needs to be programmed by the dealer. You also will need to get your remotes reprogrammed as well with the new BCM. Hope this helps.
