Question about 2005 Ford Escape
My kids went out to get into my unlocked 2005 xlt ford escape. I last drove it last evening witout issue. Shortly AFTER they got in the alarm went off. I pushed the alarm button on the keys from inside the house and it went off, only to go off again a couple of more times. When I went out there and put the key in theignition, it would not turn. Also the red alarm light is flashing on the dashboard. Tried both coded keys nothing!

I had almost the identical problem on my 2005 F150 FX4 Extended cab last weekend. The power door locks would not lock using the keypad, remotes, or door buttons. Almost all other functions worked correctly. The doors unlocked, the radio delay functioned, and the interior lights dimmed. When I used the remote the horn would beep twice indicating that a door was open even there was no message on the message center that a door was open. When I used the keypad or remote, I could hear a soft click from behind the seat. I think it was coming from the body security module or body security module - whatever Ford is calling it this year. I pulled the fuse for the Power Door Locks(BSM). As I removed it, I heard a soft click - sort of like a relay resetting. It may have come from the VSM/BSM. It may have possibly been a stuck actuator releasing. I don't think so. It wasn't that load. In any case, everything is functioning correctly now.

This is probably caused by:
a loose door switch, or
a loose connection to a door switch, or
a defective (dirty / corroded) door switch.
There is a false signal being sent that a door is open / ajar.

how do i diagnose problems with a back up alarm on a 2005 ford escape? The switch in the dashboard remains lit up as off even if depressing it? what parts are involved and is there a way to test the sesnors individually or the switch itself?

I have the same problem on my Chateau, Can't buy new module, probably cost a fortune anyway. Disconnect the Grey connector on the alarm control module. I left the black on on for no special reason. Your power door locks will no longer work. (I'm not sure about the horn. If it doesn't I'll do something else)
The black control module is located on side of the van about 1 foot behind the drivers seat. Remove 2 plastic push in clips and yank the panel away to gain access to the module.
